Bayou Choupique Mitigation Bank Approved!
The Delta team can hang its hat on another Corps approved mitigation bank! The Bayou Choupique Mitigation Bank has been approved with wetland mitigation credits available to permittees within the New Orleans Corps District.
Bayou Choupique will provide 558.9 acres of bottomland hardwood re-establishment and 121.0 acres of baldcypress swamp re-establishment within the Bayou Teche Watershed. The site has already served as compensatory mitigation for the Enterprise Acadian Natural Gas Pipeline Project, where Delta restored 448.3 acres as a permittee-responsible compensatory mitigation area adjacent to the bank.

BENEFIT TO THE LOUISIANA BLACK BEAR...
Bayou Choupique is located eight miles west of existing bottomland hardwoods designated as critical habitat for the Louisiana black bear. The restoration of the site is predicted to benefit this federally listed threatened species. The re-forestation of existing agricultural lands within the mitigation bank will enhance the continuity of extant, forested habitats and establish a larger forested corridor designated critical habitats. Other benefits include providing food, foraging and escape cover, future den sites, and minimized human disturbance.
