In this fairly large canvas, " Sheep in Moonlight" Young offers a quiet evening view of a shepherd in hat and vest with his flock following a road, roaming the grounds, and wandering alongside the villa where, inside, the glow of light offers a glimpse of the warmth within. The soft light of the moon filters through the pines and whitens the stuccoed arched veranda and walls beneath the red tiled roof . Sight is 23 1/2" X 29 1/2", overall 32" X 39". This is a well preserved canvas with no apparent repair and not yet cleaned. The reeded, molded, and bronzed period frame is in very nice condition. Signed in the lower right "C. L. V. Young, Italy, 1900". Titled on frame verso, "Sheep in Moonlight". Own this painting to keep the peace of the Italian countryside close at hand.
