This finely painted Italian oil on canvas tempts one to imagine what romantic story lies here within the painted surface. Inscribed in Italian on the back of the letter "To Angelina", a quiet and very personal moment in time is captured by the artist and his brush. Here we secretly visit emotion that, without this painting, would be lost. The quality here is unmistakeable, with workmanship, composition, color, and contrast of high order. The colors of coral and soft blue play throughout the work as highlights. The work is further ensconced in a highly detailed gilt frame in top condition. Overall height 48"and width 38" to outside edge of the front outside edge of the frame. Early to mid 19th century, unattributed. Here's a possibility for an unmatched birthday or anniversary gift. Price on request.
We just discovered this English mahogany chiffonier circa 1820 is in remarkably small scale. It has been carefully proportioned and given delicacy sometimes lacking in this period. Please note the mellow wood color, the tray detail of the top shelf, and the s-curve supports at the shelves. W. 34 1/2",d. 13", h. 39". $1275.
Our two light lamp is in the Louis XV style in the 19th century and of silver plated cast brass. The swirling tendrils at the base wind their way through the stem and on to the nozzles. Now electrified with pull chain sockets and mounted on a marble base for balance. Height 18 1/3", $385.
Just in from a local designer's collection and freshly matted and framed is a set of four hand-colored French prints, late 18th or early 19th century, in very nice order (two shown here). These well chosen silvered frames enclose wonderful matting which is inset with bookend paper in a marbleized pattern. Depicting air, fire, earth, and water, each print details recreations of various kinds with figures in formal period costume. The Parisian set of four is $750, all with enchanting detail.
