Greetings, I want show you what I consider to be quite a nice mahogany armchair above at the left. This circa 1760+ chair is of substantial size and has nice old color. The straight crest Chippendale form with the pierced splat is found in Britain then as well as the Southern Colonies. What might tempt one to feel that this is the rarer American example is the use of vertical quarter round glue blocks within the seat frame. It is a handsome chair in any case with a fresh silk damask on the slip seat. Please see detailed images at the right. Height is 38". $1095. No major repairs and ready as a possible desk chair or pull up chair. Above to the right is a wonderful 18th century period American Chippendale wing chair in fresh Christian Liaigre damask fabric. This chair has just been stripped to the frame by my upholsterer of 20+ years to reveal the clear and crisp lines the maker intended us to see. Note the serpentine crest and arms above strong scrolled arms on substantial walnut legs. The secondary wood is pine. Height 44 1/2". For the alert buyer at $2495. The early Georgian 18th century chest above was probably given its Chinoiserie decoration in the 19th century. The vermillion red design is typical in landscape views with figures. The molded edge top lifts above two short working drawers. All supported by bracket feet. W. 53", H. 30 1/2", D. 22". $1895. The Japanese Imari large plate in the Art Deco- Japonaiserie taste is early 20th century with brilliant decoration on a faux noir ground. An exotic bird sits amongst tree peonies on a spring night. W. 13 1/2", $160.
