Greetings, Recent travels took us to Ephesus, pictured in the uppermost images here, for our continued pursuit of the classical idiom which so lastingly has influenced western culture and thought in such areas as government, art, and architecture. In Ephesus, you won't be able to move without eying another reminder of the Roman source for all of forms and designs that are the foundations as well as the ornament of the 17th, 18th , and 19th century objects we love so much.

Our central piece here is mahogany Philadelphia Hepplewhite games table with much of the neoclassic present in the form of astragal corner tops on a frieze with reeded tablets over reeded legs. This has a rather nice old finish with good depth and color. Circa 1785 and priced at $975. The French Louis XV period armchairs date in the 18th century and have well chosen chintz covers. Foliate carving is atop the crests with molded stiles and legs. Seat heights are brought to a comfortable 18"-19" with full down cushions. The elegant pair, $1650. The large porcelain Chinese ginger jar is 19th century. Yellow is an unusual color on these. The surface is fully decorated with playful figures in medallions and flowering tendrils against a green ground. Height 8 1/2". The jar, $235. The painted French table and screen has original blue-green paint in a wonderfully aged surface. The serpentine crest is the top of an adjustable sliding screen with fine silkwork depicting a country scene with a shepherd asleep. The tray top rests on a slender shaft with an incurvate base on turned feet. Height 43 1/2", width 17 1/2". Also pictured are some of 20 small scatter size vintage rugs we bought while in Istanbul. Images and prices available at your request.
