17th, 18th, and 19th Century Antiques

Greetings,

The upcoming holiday season brings to mind, among many things, thought of entertaining at home with family and friends. This could be an opportune moment to add the right antique accessories or furniture to perfect those beautiful rooms of yours. Acquisition can lead to greater fulfillment and enjoyment. Here are some possibilities.

Our first snowy day here gives me a chance to offer a few thoughts to you on some of our latest purchases now here.

Two old large terra cotta urns with a bit of Beaux Arts influence have a lovely soft color with moss green touches. Details include putti, rossettes, and swags. These are old 20th century, restored, and each of three sections. Height 66", width 28".

We love these early wing chairs and were surprised to find this unique example declared Georgian which it would not be. I'd rather say Dutch origin with it's well articulated crest, angular arms, deep apron, bold cabriole legs, and three large carved shells. There is evidence of gildiing at one time to the shells and apron. The moss green velvet seems a compliment to the wood patina. Height 43", with at extreme of arms, 30 1/2".

The Charles II early dark oak table circa 1680, has a deep, rich patina. The leg turnings are boldly done and still crisp. This is a very desirable small size. H. 29 1/2", W. 14 1/2", D. 31".

Also shown, a Spanish inkstand, 18th century, six inch diameter. this should fit nicely at your desk. $900. To light your letter writing on paper or computer screen, here is one of the best detailed transitional Louis XV to Louis XVI brass candlesticks with a swirling fluted base. $325.

We look forward to your call or visit by appointment. Please note our upcoming open house on December 3rd.
Please call or email with your questions and comments.
