FOMC Annual Bud Gode Picnic and Bug Night Mt. Wrightson Picnic Area, Madera Canyon Saturday, July 28, 6:30-10:00 PM
In memory of Friends of Madera Canyon president and naturalist Bud Gode please attend a sunset picnic and evening discovering Madera Canyon's "creatures of the night" at the Mt. Wrightson Picnic Area. Meet at the picnic tables at the lower accessible restroom and parking lot. This lot is found around the picnic area/trailhead loop. There's additional parking in the three parking lots as you enter the Mt. Wrightson loop.
After the picnic a UV black-light will be set up to attract night-flying moths, beetles and other insects. The insects may in turn attract bats and owls. You will also have the opportunity to join a flashlight walk around the area to see if any other critters are out.
Notes:
- Please bring a picnic supper and beverage, a flashlight or headlamp with good batteries and a warm extra layer of clothing.
- For safety this activity is subject to last minute cancellation in the event of active thunderstorms in the canyon. If the weather is questionable, check this page on the FOMC web site for event status before beginning your trip. Our goal is to have any necessary cancellation posted by 5:35 PM.
- The event is at the Mt. Wrightson Picnic Area this year to avoid any conflicts with trail reconstruction and accessibility upgrades at Whitehouse.
