Business & Tourism Development
Jennifer Jennax, MBA, FCMC General Manager, Business and Strategic Services
 | | Jennifer Jennax |
I'm pleased to share some information about myself and my plans for the Business and Strategic Services division, which includes
Business and Tourism Development, Corporate Communications and Marketing, Corporate Strategy and Business Management, and Geographic Information Services.
I have worked for the City of St. Albert for over five years and understand the city and its challenges. In my previous role I provided internal management consulting services and this gave me the opportunity to work in all areas of the city with the management team and City Council. Before that, I spent 12 years working for private professional service firms.
Business is critically important to the City of St. Albert and I'm looking forward to building on past successes to bring future growth in this area. We are focused on delivering Council's priorities around economic development:
- Actively pursue commercial and light industrial development.
- Make a decision on the preferred location for a light industrial site.
- Build marketing capacity to promote the city and support attraction of residents, businesses, visitors and investment.
- Expedite sound decision-making on commercial and light industrial development.
- Expedite sound decisions on the land areas designated as Future Study Area to allow for development.
We want every business in St. Albert to be successful and remain dedicated to business attraction, expansion and creation.
I'm looking forward to working with businesses and achieving many successes in the coming years. I welcome you to contact me directly at 780-459-1742 should you wish to discuss these plans further.

Oil Sands Trade Show - September 13 & 14
 | | Bruce and Bob at their trade show booth |
Bruce Randall and Bob Stoyand of Business & Tourism Development attended the Oil Sands Trade Show in Fort McMurray. The show is now in it's 11th year and it has returned to Fort McMurray for the second successive year. The show demonstrates the technical innovations that makes this mammoth project feasible. It is a huge networking event that attracts the experienced operators that have been there from day one to new companies that are trying to break into the mega-dollar opportunity.
Over the two days they had the opportunity of meeting many St. Albert residents that work in Fort McMurray and call St. Albert home. Some of the business contacts have local offices in the industrial parks located in the Greater Edmonton Region. They also met others that have home based businesses in St. Albert and were pleased to see Ron Berge and his son from Hytorc who are active in the oilfield business from their location in Campbell Business Park.
There is a closer link between St Albert and Fort McMurray than we realized prior to attending the Trade Show. Business and Tourism Development will be looking at how we can maximize our business and residential opportunities with our northern neighbours.

Focusing on... Stella Blu Cafe
 | | Joe Antonucci and Antonio | Stella Blu, Cafe and Deli is located at #50, 24 Perron Street next to the trail on the river valley. They offer authentic Italian Panini's and salads. The Boccioni salad is delicious. The cafe has a comfortable, relaxing decor and a warm friendly atmosphere. We met with one of Stella Blu's owners, Giuseppe (Joe) Antonucci to feature him in our September edition.
Why did you start your business in St. Albert? My family lives in St. Albert so we were always interested in opening a business downtown. We love St. Albert and the location is perfect. Even though St. Albert is a city it has a small town feel, especially downtown with the river valley, botanic features and cobblestone sidewalks, and the people are so friendly.
Who is your target market / who are your customers?
We welcome everyone to come in to enjoy the food and drink. Whether you're in shorts and sandals or a business suit we want people to feel comfortable when they stop in. We want to be that special place that people bring their friends to; summer on the sunny patio and in the cooler, weather inside next to a warm fireplace with a flat screen TV for customers to watch.
What makes your business different or stand out from others?
We offer delicious authentic Italian food, extremely good coffee, mocha's, lattes, and fair prices, all served in a great atmosphere. We also provide catering to private parties or events. We are fully licenced, opened 7 days a week, Monday to Saturday 9am - 5pm and Sundays 10am - 4pm.
Do you incorporate technology into your business - twitter, facebook, web etc.?
Facebook: Stella Blu, a website is in the near future. You can always reach us by phone at 780-459-2013
What's your favourite thing about St. Albert?
It's a combination of people and the city itself. I love the small town feel of the city's downtown space, with the Farmer's Market, river valley, etc. It's very picturesque and welcoming and that works with our vision of what we want our restaurant to be. Watch for our Grand Opening coming in early October!
