Dear Sierra Lutheran Parent:
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans for a hope and a future. - Jeremiah 29:11
One of the greatest attributes of the Sierra Lutheran High School community has always been our ability to remain steadfast in the Lord, while receiving hope in His promises, such as we do from this verse in Jeremiah. And it is through this verse, and others like it, that we can gain strength as I share important news regarding Miss Conner and Sierra Lutheran High School.
Since sharing Miss Conner's leave status with you, the Sierra Lutheran High School Board of Directors has united with you in seeking the Lord's provision for her. In meeting with Miss Conner recently, we were pleased to welcome her to set a date for her return to the principalship this year. However, subsequent to our meeting with her, we were deeply saddened to learn that she would not be returning at this time. In an effort to honor the essence of the offer provided to Miss Conner last fall, we continue to hope that she might yet return this school year, and we will communicate more as we are able.
Miss Conner has been a valued member of the Sierra Lutheran community since her arrival, and she will always be viewed as such. However, as the year has unfolded, the Board of Directors has continued to evaluate the school's opportunity to adapt in context to other Lutheran high schools of Sierra Lutheran's enrollment category. The Board believes that Sierra Lutheran has a strong faculty and staff in place and is contemplating adopting a single administrator model, as is found in the majority of schools of Sierra Lutheran's size.
Going forward, the Board has determined that it will not be hiring a dedicated Principal for the 2012/2013 school year and will return to the single administrator structure that the school utilized from 2002 to 2006. This comes with a commitment from the Board to examine opportunities for the school to balance this decision by implementing various academic and student resources to continue proclaiming Jesus Christ through excellence in education.
As we move forward, I thank you for your partnership in the education and ministry in the proclamation of Christ and preparing servants for God's kingdom. If you have questions on this matter and would like to meet with Mr. Underwood and me, please call Mr. Underwood to schedule an appointment.
God Bless,
Julia Bonafede
Board President
