PSAT-Explore Testing Set For Next Wednesday, October 12, 8:00-11:15 am
Next Wednesday, October 12, SLHS sophomores and juniors will participate in the National Testing Day program for the PSAT-NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) as SLHS freshman take the ACT Explore Assessment.

The PSAT-NMSQT is a practice exam that provides students a baseline for their readiness for the SAT. The purpose of the Explore assessment is twofold: 1) To  provide freshmen students, their parents, and the school, an updated scholastic benchmark, and 2) To offer freshmen early insight to the types of careers that fit them well based upon their responses during the strong interest inventory portion of the test that precedes the academic component of the assessment.

Each assessment will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 11:15 a.m. These tests will replace periods 1 and 5 this Wednesday. All students, including seniors, who will be given the early part of the day off, will continue with periods 7 and 8 after lunch.

Additionally, SLHS has decided to postpone its involvement in the Christmas tree sale program to 2013 due to increased shipping minimums required to avoid excess shipping costs. Over the next year, SLHS will engage local churches, schools, and civic organizations to meet the new threshold.
