Greetings Friends,

Last month the Respect Life office in partnership with Faith Formation Children and Youth, hosted a pilot program for

Generation Life  . The team of missionaries presented a talk on chastity education to five parishes, and spoke to over 1000

students, catechetical leaders, clergy and parents in our diocese last month. The response from those who participated in the talk was overwhelmingly favorable. Additionally, the team presented a talk on the dignity of the human person and the need to support and promote a "culture of life" to other leaders in the diocese.  The preview offered not only outlined the mission of Generation Life, but will also give leaders an opportunity to institute this fundamental message on the understanding and value of the human person into their religious education and parish youth programs. More information on the programs in the DRVC for the upcoming 2012-2013 year will be commuicated this summer. Please join the United States of Catholic Bishops on a Prayer Campaign from June 21st to July 4th. RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

THE MOST CHERISHED OF AMERICAN FREEDOMS

This is our American heritage, our most cherished freedom. If we are not free in our conscience and our practice of religion, all other freedoms are fragile. If our obligations and duties to God are impeded, or even worse, contradicted by the government, then we can no longer claim to be a land of the free.

Is our most cherished freedom truly under threat? Among many current challenges, consider the recent Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate requiring almost all private health plans to cover contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs.

The Top 10 reasons to oppose the radical 'Reproductive Health Act'

 10. It moves New York State in the opposite direction of "safe, legal and rare."

9. It would undermine maternity and prenatal care programs, which could be ruled "discriminatory" for favoring childbirth over abortion.

8. It could be used to mandate abortion coverage in all insurance plans (MORE)

In the SpotlightLife Issues Forum: The Contraceptive Mandate: What Is Its Real Impact?

 By Susan E. Wills

Supporters of the Health and Human Services (HHS) contraceptive mandate endlessly repeat these claims: contraception is an essential preventive healthcare benefit; cost is the chief barrier to access; and those who object to the mandate are "waging war on women." (More)

Respect Life, Respect Adoption

For nine months you faced sorrow, ridicule, and hatred. Some said you took the easy way out. You were called selfish. Your friends didn't talk to you and never liked at you the same way. You were shunned by your family, the ones who you thought would back up your decisions the most. While all of this was happening, you had better plans for me than anyone could imagine.

A few months ago, you met with possible adoption parents. You didn't have the resources to give me the best life so you looked for other options. There was no way you were going to abort me, so you put me up for adoption. At the adoption agency, you looked for the perfect couple that you knew I deserved. One couple stood out above the rest. They have been trying for a long time, they have a big family, and they have the ability to send me to the best schools in the best neighborhood. As you left the adoption agency, you knew you made the right decision.

The day that you both looked forward to and dreaded has arrived. Right after I was born, the nurse gave me to you for the first and last time. You held my tiny fingers and whispered into my ear all of your wishes for me. You said that this was all for me and that you could never be able to give me the life that the adoption parents could. You told me you loved me, kissed me on the forehead, and gave me to the ecstatic parents finally getting the child they always wanted.

Today, I live in a great house in a great neighborhood with great parents. I have brothers, sisters, and even a pet. I have lots of friends at school and do really well there too. There are so many opportunities for me. I feel important, protected, loved and most
of all, lucky. I have all that I deserve; I have all you wished for me.

By giving me up for adoption, you gave me the life I could never have had with you. You were not selfish or stupid. You thought of me before yourself and you were smart enough to realize that there are better things out there for me than you could have ever given me. You are my savior, giving me life, and giving it to the full.
