Greetings and Happy New Year!

Please join us for the 39th Annual  March For Life 2012,

12:00 Noon on the Mall, Washington D.C.as we are all called to

BELONG MORE DEEPLY to God and one another. The Diocesan gathering will be on the National Mall, Madison Drive and 7th Street at 11:15 am (on the Southwest corner). Every January on the anniversary of Roe vs.Wade, a law passed in 1973 that legalized abortion in the United States, Americans from all over the country gather in Washington D.C. to express their belief in defense of life. And, that all life has dignity, is sacred and worthy of respect and protection. Please also join us for the post-march gathering at St. Joseph's Church on Capitol Hill for refreshments and prayers for a safe journey home.

Please call to pick up your complmentary signs for the March!

For bus registration, info inquires, or should anyone need a ride please contact us as soon as possible at (516) 678-5800 Ext 626.

Through the words, the actions and the very person of Jesus, man is given the possibility of "knowing" the complete truth, concerning the value of human life. From this "source" he receives, in particular, the capacity to "accomplish" this truth perfectly (cf.Jn 3:21), that is, to accept and fulfill completely the responsibility of loving and serving, of defending and promoting human life.

NEW! Mass For Giving Thanks to God

for the Gift of Human Life

The new "Mass For Giving Thanks to God for the Gift of Human Life" may now be used on occasions to celebrate the dignity of human life.  The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) no. 373 has been altered to allow this Mass to also be said on January 22 (or January 23, when January 22 falls on a Sunday), the day of penance for abortion.

GIRM no. 373 continues to designate January 22 as a particular day of prayer and penance for abortion, called the "Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children." Visit here for more information.

The Respect Life Office is pleased to announce the excellent response to the Advent Project that supports Maternity Residences.

Thank you for your support and request for donation boxes. Please send your donations to the RESPECT LIFE OFFICE. Currently, the residences have many newborn babies and moms in need and more babies are expected early in the New Year. Please keep these young lives, both the mother and child in your prayers. The Advent Project financially assists and supports many women living in maternity residences here on LI and also raises awareness and underscores our commitment to life.

The Annual Respect Life Contest First Place winning entries are due in the Respect Life Office by January 27, 2012. We hope that all students in Grades 7-12 will be encouraged to participate!

WHAT IS PROJECT RACHEL?

Project Rachel is the post-abortion healing ministry and outreach of the Catholic Church. It was founded in 1984 in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee by Vicki Thorn. At this time, Project Rachel is in more than 110 dioceses in the United States with more ministries forming around the world. The diocesan Respect Life Office Project Rachel ministry is composed of a network of specially trained clergy, compassionate caregivers and therapists who will provide one-on-one care to those who are struggling with abortion loss whether the loss is current or in the past. Project Rachel is designed to provide confidential and skilled help to each individual who comes to the ministry through a confidential phone line that will be available next month.

Project Rachel is able to help women and men; parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and others whose lives have been touched by abortion loss. Please view the video for information on Project Rachel. See Video

 "There Oughta Be a Law"

By Richard Doerflinger

United States Catholic Conference of Bishops         December 9, 2011

I used to think we were a nation committed to freedom of conscience.  Heck, I used to think we had a body of law effectively defending that freedom.  After the events of the past few months, I'm not so sure. Consider:  (More)

MaterniT21 and its Consequences

On Oct 17, 2011 Sequenom, Inc., A medical company located in San Diego, CA released a test that will allow doctors to screen for Down syndrome with only a blood test from the mother. The test called MaterniT21, could lead too many more women being screened, resulting in many more abortions. Testing for Down syndrome has been around since the development of amniocentesis in the late 1960's.  (More)
