Led by the Rev. Dominic Moore.

David Jones
Stewardship 2012: Be Transformed
by David Jones

When I was growing up, I went to Sunday school at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fulton, in far western Kentucky. It was a good thing we didn't have to take exams. Showing up and finding the Lord's Prayer in the Book of Common Prayer were all that was expected of us. What I learned about the Bible was to keep quiet and not show my ignorance.

Despite these humble credentials, I was asked to write about stewardship at Good Shepherd, using Chapter 12 of Paul's letter to the Romans as a basis. In Verse 2, King James Version, Paul says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

It doesn't sound like Paul was trying to raise money. Stewardship is about money, but not just about money. My old paperback dictionary defines it as "active concern with the direction of the affairs of an organization." With that broader idea in mind, Paul's message begins to make more sense as we consider our commitments to our faith, our church and each other. He is telling us to raise our sights, to look beyond the daily world. He says to "transform" ourselves by thinking more about what it means to be Christians. Then, we are more likely to live and act as Christians doing God's will.

Transformation obviously has many rewards for us as individuals. It would also lead us to be good stewards. While the King James language has come and gone, Paul's message is still with us. And, I think the people of Good Shepherd get it. Here's how.

As a parishioner of more than 25 years, I have seen countless examples of people here doing God's will. If I am to be transformed, it will be because of them. I have learned more about love and kindness from them than anything else I can think of. Because of them, I know how it feels to be met with a smile on a Sunday morning. I know how it feels to receive food when a family member is sick. I know how it feels when others rush to comfort you in shock and grief.

There is no doubt in my mind that many people at Good Shepherd are well acquainted with the concept of transformation. I am sure they are good stewards too.
Online Pictorial Directory
Online Pictorial Directory

We want to significantly add to the number of photos we have of our members and friends in the Courtyard online pictorial directory. A photographer will be set up in the Loggia/Concourse area Sunday morning to take pictures for anyone who doesn't currently have their image in Courtyard.

The online directory allows is easy to use with the ability to customize your own information, search for information on other members and connect with the rest of the Good Shepherd family. If you're already received an invitation and set up your account, you can click HERE to login or find the link under the "About Us" menu on the church web site. If you desire access to the directory, please contact the church office and we will make sure you gain access to this valuable resource.
