Fall Worship Schedule and Sunday School Return

This Sunday, September 9, our fall schedule returns with morning services at 7:45, 9:00 and 11:15 and the 5:00 p.m. service continuing through the fall. At 10:15 a.m., we truly have a Sunday School class for every person, no matter their age! See the complete schedule elsewhere in this newsletter.

Monday Night Bible Study

A complicated and fascinating text, the Bible has been a source of wisdom, humor, inspiration and history for millennia. But how well do we really know it? Join a small group to read the Bible together verse by verse. All are welcome!  Meets in the Bride's Room (downstairs) at 6:00 p.m. Mondays beginning September 10. Click here for FAQs. Contact Fr. Dominic Moore for more information.

Theology on Tap

Are you an adult looking for theological discussion in a fun and nontraditional setting? Please join us on Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. at The Village Idiot, 349 West Short Street, for laughter, thought-provoking conversation and fellowship. We will discuss what has been the most meaningful book to you on your spiritual journey. Contact Matt Elliott for more information.

Fall Supper Groups Forming

Supper groups are a great opportunity to make new friends. Groups of 6-8 persons meet once a month from October to January. Families, singles and couples are all encouraged to participate; groups will be made up to meet your preferences. Sign up in the Loggia by September 30 or call the church office to join in this fellowship. The kickoff potluck is Sunday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Undercroft. Contact Joyce Roth for more information. We hope to see you there!

Liturgy Training Day on September 16

On Sunday, September 16 after the 11:15 a.m. service we will serve lunch to those who can attend our training session for people interested in joining or having a refresher on any of the following liturgical ministries: Altar Guild, Ushers/Greeters, Lectors (readers of scriptural lessons)/ Intercessors (leaders of the Prayers of the People), Acolytes, Chalice Bearers and Eucharistic Visitors. This is a great chance to join together for a fellowship meal before being trained in one of the many liturgical duties that support worship here at Good Shepherd. We do need to request a RSVP so we can get an accurate count for lunch AND know which liturgical ministry you wish to join for training. Sign up in the Loggia on Sunday or contact parish secretary Cindy McKee, 859-252-1744.

It Makes Our Hearts Glad...
...that an overflow crowd attended the weather affected version of our parish picnic and ministry fair on Sunday! Special thanks to the men's group and the parish life committee for their contributions. What a great day!

...that the congregation has responded so generously to the request from Booker T. Washington Elementary School for school supplies. There is still time to join in-check the display in the Loggia, or write a check to Good Shepherd for any amount you choose (school supplies on the memo line).

...that thanks to the men's group, Bill Cox and Nathan Churchill, a bench has been installed at the bus stop in front of the church. Another great example of offering hospitality to our neighbors!

Rector's Forum

Location: Undercroft

Beginning this Sunday, September 9 at 10:15 a.m., Fr. Brian will lead a four week series on the Rule of St. Benedict and its application for our daily lives in the 21st century. You may already be a Benedictine and not know it! We will examine the Rule and explore how the spirit of St. Benedict's   life has greatly impacted the way Episcopalians pray and serve in the world.

Current Events and the Christian Life

Location: Bride's Room

Events currently in the news are examined through Scripture and Christian tradition, informing our engagement in the world. This is a discussion based class led by Kevin Ellis and others. Events such as the Colorado movie theater shooting, a church in Mississippi not allowing an interracial couple to marry, natural disasters, politics, and more have been discussed.  A current event in the news is read, then questions for discussion are introduced, followed by Bible verses and stories, then the current event is looked at through those eyes again, and finally some moral and ethical questions are discussed.

Workers Needed for Mission Lexington Move Mission Lexington

With a new space for ministry, Mission Lexington will soon be able to see TWICE the number of patients as in their previous locations. Work Nights will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 11 through October 25 (or until the work is completed) at the new Mission Lexington Building at 230 South Martin Luther King Blvd. On Thursday, September 13 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., volunteers are needed to assisting with framing and drywalling new walls. Instruction will be provided. On Saturday, September 15 beginning at
2:00 p.m., volunteers are needed to paint these walls and everyone is welcome! On Tuesday, September 18 and Thursday, September 20 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., final work will be done on the walls, doors, and finishes.

Mission Lexington has already provided more than $2.6 million dollars worth of free medical and dental care for those who need it the most and can afford it the least. Your support is deeply appreciated. For more information, contact Elizabeth Leppman or 859-245-4325.

Online Pictorial Directory
Online Pictorial Directory

We want to significantly add to the number of photos we have of our members and friends in the Courtyard online pictorial directory. A photographer will be set up in the Loggia/Concourse area Sunday morning to take pictures for anyone who doesn't currently have their image in Courtyard.

The online directory allows is easy to use with the ability to customize your own information, search for information on other members and connect with the rest of the Good Shepherd family. If you're already received an invitation and set up your account, you can click HERE to login or find the link under the "About Us" menu on the church web site. If you desire access to the directory, please contact the church office and we will make sure you gain access to this valuable resource.
