Five Ways to Connect at Good Shepherd
Living the Good Life: The Faith and Wellness Journey Plan now to join us this Saturday, August 25 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for "Living the Good Life: The Faith and Wellness Journey," an afternoon of learning, exploration and fun for the entire parish featuring workshops and presentations on wellness-related subjects along with booths, fabulous door prizes and healthy snacks. This event has been planned and organized by a caring group of parishioners and you don't want to miss it. Come and bring your family and friends! Church Picnic and Ministry Fair Next Sunday, September 2 following the 10:00 a.m. service Wear your picnic clothes and stay after the service on September 2 for a potluck picnic with your church family! Hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks and table service will be provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. Chairpersons of our many lay ministries will be on hand with information about ways you can be involved. Rector's Book Club The Rector's Book Club kicks off on Thursday, September 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Please join Fr. Brian for a discussion of Wendell Berry's novel Jayber Crow. The story unfolds slowly and beautifully as a failed preacher/town barber observes the rural Kentucky community of Port William during the middle years of the 20th century. Berry's prose is poetic and he is able to find deep wisdom in the ordinary and everyday. Contact Fr. Brian for more information. Return to Regular Schedule On Sunday, September 9 we return to our regular schedule with Holy Eucharist at 7:45, 9:00, 11:15 and 5:00 and Christian Formation classes for all ages at 10:15. The list of adult offerings will be published next week, so be sure to watch for that. Provide School Supplies Booker T. Washington Elementary, our Blessings in a Backpack school, is in need of school supplies. Please stop in the Loggia on Sunday, check the list and assist by purchasing one or many items. Return all items by September 16.

It Makes Our Hearts Glad... ...that Lucy Cox's excellent work on the diocesan transition committee and overseeing such a smooth electing convention was evident last Saturday when The Very Rev. Dr. Doug Hahn was elected as the 7th Bishop of Lexington. Thank you, Lucy! ...that Andrew Burton's musical offerings on the clarinet greatly enriched our worship last Sunday. ...that Good Shepherd is now a Blue Grass Bike Partner, offering our cycling friends water and access to phones and restrooms. ...that 54 people attended the Godly Play family breakfast last Sunday and the Rev. Deacon Lois Howard shared her gift of storytelling with us. ...to announce that the Sunday 5:00 p.m. service will continue through the fall. "It Makes Our Hearts Glad" provides a way for members and friends to strengthen the fabric of our community by sharing good news or offer affirmations. The word "glad" is derived from Old and Middle English words meaning shining or bright. Add to the weekly "Glad Report" by email or by calling 859.252.1744. |

Choir Krispy Kreme Fundraiser Continues on Sunday
For $7, you get a certificate worth a dozen glazed doughnuts from a participating Krispy Kreme Store, (costing $7 plus tax if you had no certificate) and 50% of that $7 goes to the Good Shepherd choirs. You can redeem your certificate in Lexington at the store on Richmond Road, between Todds and Mt. Tabor. Stop by our table in the Loggia this Sunday! Why buy them?
Do you have meetings at work?
You probably have a least one meeting a month where a dozen doughnuts could get you off to a good start. Plan ahead! Buy 12 Krispy Kreme certificates this Sunday. You will be set for the entire year. Just stop by our table in the loggia to purchase or pre-order certificates
Do you have stockings to stuff?
Once Santa has filled the stockings, there's might be a little space left. Why not put a Krispy Kreme certificate in that space? Santa won't mind. Stop by our table on Sunday and buy a few certificates. They have no expiration date.
Do you have teachers to appreciate?
What a great idea for end-of-year or end-of-semester teacher gifts. Krispy Kreme certificates are easy on the pocketbook, yet still make a statement. Buy them now to use at the end of the semester or year. Come see us on Sunday in the loggia.
Do you have a sweet tooth?
We want you to eat a healthy balanced diet, but it is okay to splurge from time to time. Make a plan to buy and share a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts once a month. Stop by our table on Sunday and purchase 12 Krispy Kreme certificates.
Good Shepherd Choirs thank you for helping us in our fundraising efforts.
