Christmas Day: The Nativity of Our Lord

 It Makes Our Hearts Glad...
...that Dominic Moore will celebrate the Holy Eucharist for the first time since his ordination to the priesthood at both Christmas Eve services; ...that Leeann Murphy, Maddie Butler, Katie Butler, Judi Woodford and Martin Woodford came to the church office quickly and without hesitation to help with getting candles ready for Christmas Eve. ...that members of the Altar Guild and chair Barbara Groves give so freely of their time to ensure that everything is in good order for all our services, especially Christmas Eve.
"It Makes Our Hearts Glad" provides a way for members and friends to strengthen the fabric of our community by sharing good news or offer affirmations. The word "glad" is derived from Old and Middle English words meaning shining or bright. Add to the weekly "Glad Report" by email or by calling 859.252.1744. |
The Christmas Story
as told by Ms. Lucy's 4-year-old class at Good Shepherd Day School
There was a woman named Mary who was God's girlfriend and the man was Joseph. He was a carpenter who used his hands and saws to make houses and beds. He made one for the baby that Mary was having. Mary had a big tummy. It takes about two years for a baby to be born and babies play with their toes while they are inside the mommy. God told Mary to name the baby Jesus. God has brown hair and wears a long, white shirt. So Mary and Joseph had to go to Bethlehem. It was 20 miles away and it took about two days and 40 hours to get there. They took a lot of food like turkey, ham, chicken nuggets, yogurt, grapes and PB&Js to eat and they drinked water, milk and OJ.
There was no place for them to sleep, so they went to a shelter place with animals, so it was like a barn. They rested and then the baby came out and it was Jesus. His birthday is always Christmas actually. He was little, about 2 pounds, but he was special. He had blonde hair and blue eyes. A white dog came to see him and it barked too loud and scared him. After Jesus was borned, then Mary had another baby that night and it was a girl named Emily. Wait a minute. Santa said only one kid was there and it was a boy! Some sheep people--shepherds--were out at night and the angels flew around and told them an amazing baby was born in the barn and they better hurry over there and don't be afraid. They had to follow the big star in the sky and then the angels sang "Oh Baby, Baby" very soft and smooth. The angels were maybe named Joe, Henry and Charlie. If we had a Bible around here we could figure it out or else ask Deacon Lauren--she knows a lot about God and Jesus.
Then the three wise men came riding over. It looks like they were on dinosaurs. Oh good grief, those were camels. They brought gold and a candle, but a train track would have been a gooder present for a boy. They probably bringed him yellow and blue flowers, too. When Jesus was 4, he went to school and learned how to do backward somersaults and handstands, but he never could do cartwheels.
Later when he got older he lived in heaven with God and the animals. If he was still alive he'd be about 78. But in heaven you stay alive and sleep well. Heaven is in the clouds. You get up there in a hot air balloon--no airplanes go to heaven. Jesus died on a cross 'cause people didn't like him. It's hard to talk about it. It was a sad story. But God did a big miracle and Jesus came back to life! It will be great when we get to have that miracle, too, and that's not sad. That is all there is to tell.
Joy, Peace and Love to All

Major Gift Moves Church Pipe Orgam Project Forward

Pastoral Care Ministry By whom is this duty [visiting the sick] to be performed? The answer is ready: By all that desire to "inherit the kingdom" of their Father, which was "prepared forth from the foundation of the world." For thus saith the Lord, "Come, ye blessed; --inherit the kingdom;--For I was sick, and ye visited me." (Taken from a sermon by John Wesley)
A new Pastoral Care Ministry is being formed at Good Shepherd. A small group of interested parishioners met with Father Dominic in October to help plan this ministry whose purpose is to visit the sick and homebound of our parish. You can assist this ministry by contacting the Church office if you or someone you know needs a visit. We would also like to encourage you to join us in this ministry. For more information, contact one of the Ministry Leaders--Dianne Griffith, Marie Ward or Paul Kowalski.
