Loaves and Fishes Sunday July 31Loaves and Fishes

"You give them something to eat."

On Sunday, July 31, we will read St. Matthew's account of the feeding of the multitude (Matthew 14:13-21). Jesus had been teaching and healing people all day.  Late in the day, when the disciples proposed sending them away to the villages so they could buy food, Jesus said, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat."

The disciples protested that in all that crowd there were only five loaves and two fish.  Jesus took them, blessed them, distributed them, and the people ate until their hunger was satisfied.  Matthew tells us that after the meal the disciples collected twelve baskets of leftover pieces.

The retelling of this amazing story provides us with an opportunity to extend the feeding of the multitude to those who have hungers in our mission field.  We have been collecting food and funds for the pantry at St. Agnes House during the month of July.   This Sunday, we will bring that campaign to a conclusion as we observe "Loaves and Fishes Sunday."

St. Agnes' House PantrySt. Agnes' House, a hospitality ministry of the Diocese of Lexington, provides lodging for patients and caregivers seeking treatment for very serious illnesses in Lexington medical care facilities who cannot afford to rent a hotel room for the duration of their treatment. The cost at St. Agnes' House is $10 per night, although no one is ever turned away due to their inability to pay.

Please make a special offering for St. Agnes' House on Sunday, July 31.  Your gift will be used to purchase food for the pantry and to pay utility bills.  Be sure to identify your contribution for "St. Agnes' House" on the memo line of your check.  You may also make your contribution online by clicking here
