Greetings! The vestry has appointed a task force to receive names of persons to be considered for the Rector Nominating Committee to oversee the parish self-study and the search for a rector. The members of the task force are Kathy Gross, Sr. Warden, Guy Huguelet, Jr. Warden, Chuck Beal, Sarah Charles Wright, and Lucy Cox.
Those who believe they are called to serve on the Rector Nominating Committee must complete an application form and return it to the parish office no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2011. The task force will give prayerful consideration to all applications received and make recommendations to the vestry during their retreat on the weekend of February 4-6. The vestry hopes to appoint the committee at that time.
It is exciting to contemplate being a part of the process of calling a new rector for a beloved parish. Many gifted, talented, and dedicated people are interested in being on the committee that will recommend candidates to the vestry, and have been thinking about it from the time the former rector's leave-taking was known.
Some points to consider:
· The invitation to apply for membership on the Rector Nominating Committee is extended to all adult confirmed communicants in good standing in this parish. Definition: An adult confirmed communicant in good standing is a recorded member of this parish who is at least sixteen years of age, has received the laying on of hands by a Bishop of this Church in Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation, and who for the past year has been regular in worship and a regular financial contributor of record.
· Being on a Rector Nominating Committee is not an honorary position. It is a commitment that can range from 12 months to 2 years of weekly meetings.
· The date for the Rector Nominating Committee's Formation Retreat is March 5 and the four Holy Conversations are the evenings of March 24, March 31, April 11, and April 14. Those chosen for membership must indicate on their application that they will attend both the Formation Retreat and all four Holy Conversations. Attendance is mandatory.
· Those who have served on previous parish nominating committees are not eligible for membership. Why? The process itself has changed dramatically, and it can be difficult for people who have known one process to work within another. In addition, the parish itself has changed dramatically in the years since previous nominating processes. Thirdly, each parish has an abundance of talented members who would make excellent committee members.
· The vestry is seeking the broadest possible representation of our congregation and to achieve this balance will be considering areas of parish life represented by each nominee as well as skills that each will bring to the committee.
· If you are interested in applying to be on the Nominating Committee, give some thought to what particular gifts you will bring to its work. (Examples: What particular population of the parish do you represent? What areas of parish life are you involved in? Where are you on the continuum of life in the Episcopal Church, the Diocese of Lexington and Good Shepherd? What objectivity/subjectivity about the parish can you bring? What skills and abilities from other areas of your life will you bring?)
