Welcome to Newmarket Mills

New Tenants

This month we welcome Jan Knox and Johanna Robertson to the Mill community.  Jan and Johanna are artists who relocated their studio from Durham. Jan creates original pieces using found objects. She was inspired to create our mascot, "Millie".

Jan wrote, "Millie is an homage to the Newmarket Mills. Her body was recovered from behind the building during renovations. Her fins are made of shoe leather found at the site which formerly housed the Timberland Shoe factory. The base is granite from the building itself.  Millie is the very last of her kind - the Legendary Newmarket Millfish. She bites." We couldn't resist making Millie the first purchase of our Newmarket Mills art collection.  She now sits proudly and fiercely within our leasing center. She appears to be very happy here and no one has been bitten.

The 14th Annual Newmarket Heritage Festival will take place right on our doorstep this coming weekend (September 24th and 25th). This event is the Seacoast's "favorite international block party". The Festival is a celebration of the arts, culture, history, and community spirit - rooted in a small New England mill town. The event has grown from a one-tent festival to a full weekend of multi-cultural music and dance, artisan demonstrations, historic walking tours, narrated boat tours, kayak excursions, a model railway, hands-on children's activities, fine arts and crafts, strolling performers, vendor booths, a colonial encampment, and more.

What a difference a few months make! Our courtyard is almost finished. The handrails are being installed over the next few days and then the space will be open to the public as well as the tenants and residents.
