Bob from the 'Boro

Robert Rullman was sworn in as a CASA Volunteer on April 7, 2010, and immediately was assigned to a case. Over the past year Bob traveled 561 miles and volunteered 99 hours to fulfill his mission as an advocate.
On April 7, 2011 CASA staff honored Bob with the 2011 Extraordinary Volunteer at the United Way of Greater Augusta Celebration.
We asked Allison Straw, DSS Foster Care Social Worker, to comment on her experience working with Bob. The following was read at the United Way Celebration:
"I had the pleasure of working with Bob Rullman aka "CASA Bob" or "Bob from the 'Boro" for approximately 2 months before CASA was removed from the child's case due to the parents having their parental rights terminated. Despite no longer being appointed by the court, Bob continues to visit and call the child on a regular basis. The child adores Bob and seems to have a grandchild-grandparent type of rapport with him. Bob has shown tremendous commitment to this young boy - whom resides at a treatment facility and has not had any contact with his natural parents for several months. Bob has been an asset to my case in providing me with important background/historical information on this family and the child. I very much look forward to continuing to work with Bob on future cases. Congratulations on your award, CASA BOB!!!"
Thank you Bob for speaking up for a young boy who's life is forever changed by your compassion and service!

Thank You Thetas!

In 1989, the Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity made CASA it's national philanthropy. Our local program has generously been supported by the Theta women at both James Madison University and Washington and Lee Univeristy. On Saturday March 19th, W&L Thetas hosted a Kicks For CASA kick ball tournament to raise awareness and support of our program. Lexington CASA Volunteer, Kay Dean, represented our program by helping with the event. Visit our Facebook page to see pictures. On Sunday, March 27th, JMU Thetas hosted a Influential Women's Tea and Silent Auction to benefit our program. Staunton CASA volunteer, Alice Leonhardt was a speaker at the event, sharing her experiences as an advocate.
A BIG THANK YOU to THETAS for their amazing support!
