Positive Steps | |
Take a walk for 10 - 20 minutes everyday smiling
Sit in silence at least 10 minutes everyday
When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement "my purpose is to... today"
State you choose not to participate in a bad economy
Turn off and tune out all the web, radio and TV pundits - they thrive on creating concern
Help someone everyday
Make your health a priority - eat right, don't drink too much and work out
Live the three E's - Energy,
Enthusiasm and Empathy
And the three F's - Faith, Family and Friends
Don't take yourself so seriously - no one else does
No matter how you feel - get up, dress up and show up
Believe the best is yet to come!
Practice these or at least consider frequently. As business leaders we have the challenge, responsibility and opportunity to positively affect our society. Let's do our part honorably and for all the right reasons.

Power Posing: Fake It Until You Make It By Julie Hanna
We can't be the alpha dog all of the time. Whatever our personality, most of us experience varying degrees of feeling in charge. Some situations take us down a notch while others build us up.
New research shows that it's possible to control those feelings a bit more, to be able to summon an extra surge of power and sense of well-being when it's needed: for example, during a job interview or for a key presentation to a group of skeptical customers.
"Our research has broad implications for people who suffer from feelings of powerlessness and low self-esteem due to their hierarchical rank or lack of resources," says HBS assistant professor Amy J.C. Cuddy, one of the researchers on the study.
In "Power Posing: Brief Nonverbal Displays Affect Neuroendocrine Levels and Risk Tolerance", Cuddy shows that simply holding one's body in expansive, "high-power" poses for as little as two minutes stimulates higher levels of testosterone (the hormone linked to power and dominance in the animal and human worlds) and lower levels of cortisol (the "stress" hormone that can, over time, cause impaired immune functioning, hypertension, and memory loss).
The result?

Creativity is an Attitude

The first time I saw the fishmongers at Pike Place Fish Market throwing salmon and crabs, I thought of fun and entertainment.
But it turned out the throwing was really an act of creativity. The way the market was laid out, when the guys made a sale, they had to walk 15 steps around the counter to get the fish and 15 steps back to ring up the purchase. One day, tired of walking, a fishmonger tossed the fish over the counter to a fellow employee. Eureka! A more efficient delivery method was created.
The fishmongers' innovation is a good example of "everyday creativity." It's not exactly the invention of the light bulb or the personal computer, but it improved the business, attracted customers and made it more enjoyable to work there.
The fish guys didn't invent fish throwing because owner John Yokoyama ordered everyone to be creative. It happened because they had a clear vision of the workplace they wanted to be-World Famous!-and trusted each other to figure out how to make it happen. People weren't afraid to try something new.
