Thinking of
Moving to MN? | |
There's a lot to know about Minnesota. Here you'll find plenty of facts, figures and informational tidbits about the state's history, geography and climate. Everything from the prehistoric carvings found throughout the state to the 7,326 square miles of water found within its borders. Not to mention, practical travel information like the average low and high temperature throughout the year. One thing is for sure: the more you know about Minnesota, the more you appreciate all that it offers.
Regions Like four states within a state, Minnesota's regions have their own individual charm, geography and assortment of adventures. Looking for untouched wilderness? There's a region here for that. Looking for urban sophistication? There's a region for that. Hard-core adventure? Yup, you guessed it. From the rugged wilderness of the Northeast to the blooming tranquility of the prairie land of the South, Minnesota offers a rich texture of experiences whichever way the compass takes you.
Experience Minnesota
Good times are as plentiful in Minnesota as lake water and the phrase you betcha. This sentiment is echoed throughout the state, from the legendary fishing of the North Woods to the nationally acclaimed art scene of the Twin Cities; from the over 800 annual state-wide festivals to the over 500 pristine golf courses; from the kitschy allure of the world's largest leather boot to the world-renown architecture of the Guthrie Theater. Minnesota adventure awaits you.

"What Really Matters"
By Connie Moore, CPC
Much has been written about the subject of "Employee Engagement" and it seems to me that the answers and solutions to this are pretty much common sense!
Corporations spend enormous amounts of money trying to figure this out; hiring consultants to tell them the same old things- written with some new buzz words. It all boils down to putting yourself in the other person's shoes. If you were an employee of the company, what would be important to you? How would you like to be treated? On the list of ways to keep your employees engaged in the following article are: Don't act more concerned about your welfare than anyone else's. Another brilliant suggestion: Don't be cold, distant, rude or unfriendly. Really??!
In my 35+ years in the search business I have found one thing to be certain - the primary reason that people leave jobs is "My boss/company does not care about me, I am just a number to them." It may sound too simplistic to be accurate, but it is so true. And interestingly enough, corporations continue to often hire or promote the wrong people for leadership positions. Then, they wonder why they have turnover...
It is extremely important to hire the right people for any position, and when it comes to your leadership roles, there is no room for error. Find out what makes that VP candidate tick. How do they view their leadership role, do not settle for superficial canned conversation, and do whatever it takes to make sure you are hiring someone whose values match those of your company.

Some Thoughts About Wisdom
By Connie Moore, CPC
As I was doing some research on the subject of wisdom, I discovered some thoughtful and inspiring quotes to share with you from FORBES site. These speak to my heart:
Wisdom is divided into two parts: (a) having a great deal to say, and (b) not saying it.
-- Anonymous
True wisdom lies in gathering the precious things out of each day as it goes by.
-- E.S. Bouton
Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers. It may not be difficult to store up in the mind a vast quantity of facts within a comparatively short time, but the ability to form judgments requires the severe discipline of hard work and the tempering heat of experience and maturity.
-- Calvin Coolidge
Wisdom ceases to be wisdom when it becomes too proud to weep, too grave to laugh, and too self-ful to seek other than itself.
-- Kahlil Gibran
Make wisdom your provision for the journey from youth to old age, for it is a more certain support than all other possessions.
-- Diogenes Laėrtius

"Boy, Is Your Wife Going To Be Happy With You"
PUBLISHER JOHN CHRISTENSEN
EDITOR SANDRA FRANDRUP
One Saturday morning, Harry walked into a large home improvement store. He intended to fulfill a long-delayed promise to his wife to put up gutters. Not being much of a handyman, he was nevertheless confident he could get the job done.
Harry asked an employee where the gutters were, but he just pointed toward the far end of the store and kept on walking. He eventually found the right aisle, but his confidence was replaced by a feeling of intimidation: There were so many gutters and gutter materials that it looked like an Iowa cornrow extending forever.
Overwhelmed, Harry quickly decided to put off the gutter project indefinitely. As he began to walk away, defeated, a friendly voice said, "Sir, it looks like you need a little help."
Harry turned around to see a man in a wheelchair, wearing a bright vest...Read More .com
