Welcome New DSC Executive Director
DSC Community,
I am very pleased to announce that our search for a new Executive Director has concluded. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Greg Cantori, Executive Director of the Downtown Sailing Center. Most recently, Greg served as Executive Director of the Marion I. & Henry J. Knott Foundation for over 12 years. During his tenure, he was impressed with our mission and funded some of our outreach activities.
Previously, Greg served seven years as Executive Director of Light Street Housing Corporation where he implemented the comprehensive vision of "Homelessness to Homeownership". Greg is past President of One Less Car (now Bike Maryland), The Baltimore Housing Roundtable and the Maryland Center for Community Development. He is a past advisor to the Bearman Foundation, and past Board member of the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers.
He holds an Executive M.B.A. from Loyola College and a Bachelor's degree in Geography and Cartography from UMBC.
Greg is also an avid sailor. Greg learned to sail as a youngster on a sabot dinghy in Marina Del Ray, Los Angeles. He then crewed on a Jet 14 and numerous larger boats over the years, eventually earning his 50 ton auxiliary sail captains license. He re-floated (!) and then lived aboard a 1947 S&S Knutson Pilot 33 for several years and has owned and sailed a Force 5, Cal 20, Morgan 35 and currently sails a Freedom 39 Pilothouse Schooner. He regularly participates in the Great Chesapeake Schooner Race to Save the Bay and has been lucky enough to have sailed to Bermuda and the Bahamas.
While, Greg began his new position on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, he will be taking two weeks off from June 7th to June 20th. Greg and I will work together so that I can assist in covering his duties while he out of town.
Please join us for Happy Hour to welcome Greg to the Downtown Sailing Center on Friday, June 1st at 6pm at Little Havana's.

Best Grassroots Groupon Campaign in Baltimore History!
Our fundraiser for the Lollipop Kids Foundation was a huge success. In total the DSC raised over $3,500! We are excited to bring LollipopKids back to the DSC. It would not have been possible without all your help. As an organization everyone went above and beyond by sharing emails and spreading the word. Thank you to everyone who donated and raised awareness about our program.
Here are some testimonials from people who donated:
- "This looks incredible! I will donate tonight."
- "The Downtown Sailing Center has done an awesome job raising funds for these kids!! Congratulations!!!"
- "So wonderful! I Hope this organization gets all the help it needs."

DSC Parking Lot Access & Reminders
Please be advised there is a "Red Flag Day" at DSC in the BMI parking lot on Sunday, June 3rd for the entire day. If you plan on visiting the DSC and sailing that day, please park on Key Highway or the surrounding streets.
Reminders about parking for DSC Members - your cooperation is very much appreciated:
- Seek parking on the gravel area near the docks. If no parking is available in that area, limited blacktop parking can be utilized, keeping as close to the docks as possible.
- The "Entrance" Gate is solely for the purpose of vehicular traffic entering the BMI/DSC parking lot. Do not use this as a vehicle exit from the property at any time unless the "Exit" gate is locked. The "Exit" Gate should be utilized to leave the property. (This applies to moving vehicles only, not pedestrian or bicycle traffic.)
- Skippers and Dock Masters performing end of day "securing the property" duties as the last remaining members on site will be required to close and lock both the Entrance and Exit Gates in the future.
- Please drive slowly and keep watch for pedestrians, especially children, and also wildlife in the parking area.
