Groupon and the Downtown Sailing Center Fund Raiser
Dear DSC Community,
This week the DSC partnered with Groupon Grassroots, the philanthropic arm of Groupon.
The goal is to raise money to help the Lollipop Kids Foundation return to the DSC. $500 gets 10 kids on the water for one afternoon.
Through early social media and email efforts of our volunteer members we have already received over $900.
But the DSC doesn't want to stop there. We hope to be one of the best campaigns in the Baltimore area. We need YOUR help to make that happen.
We only need 500 people to donate $10 to reach our goal. As DSC supporters and members you can share the story of our outreach programs.
Check out, "Emily's Story," for one great example of the DSC impact. You'll learn how the accessible outreach program at DSC shines in the lives of many just like little Emily.
Please help the DSC hit:
*200 donations by tonight.
*400 donations by Friday.
*500 donations by the end of the campaign.

"Red Flag Day" at DSC

Please be advised there will be no parking lot access for members and guests on Thursday, May 16th from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. If you are going to be on the water by 4:00 PM, please make sure you park on Key Highway upon your arrival in the afternoon to not conflict with the event that will be underway commencing at 4:00 PM. |

Open House at DSC

Open House Needs Volunteers (9:30 AM to 1:30 PM):
The DSC first Open House of the 2012 season is next Sunday, May 20th.
Thank you for those individuals who have registered to assist with the Open House guests and flow of the day's events. We are needing just two additional people to help with shore based duties such greeting guests. If you are interested in helping out, please select "volunteer" as the registration type. If you are already registered, please plan to arrive by 9:30 AM to rig and prepare for the arrival of new sailors. We appreciate your interest in assisting with promoting the DSC and value your time that you share with us. |

League for People with Disabilities - Volunteers Needed

The Downtown Sailing Center will have the League for People with Disabilities at the sailing center from 5-7pm. The program is very similar to our Access-Ability Saturday event and we need volunteers. Specifically we will need 2-3 sailing buddies, 1-2 transfer aids, and 2 riggers and de-riggers.
It will be a great opportunity for volunteers to experience one of our accessible programs in a relaxed atmosphere. Since the program has a smaller group of participants it allows for the volunteers to learn the ins and outs while helping an amazing group of people learn to sail.

Volunteer Happy Hour at Feisty Goat Pub

Interested in volunteering but don't know anything about the organization? Want to have an opportunity to hangout with your DSC friends?
Come down to the monthly Happy Hour to meet volunteers, hangout with old friends and discuss the 2012 season.
So many people who live in Baltimore have heard of the DSC but don't truly know how wonderful the organization is and how they can personally get involved. The goal of these happy hours is to introduce new people to the awesome world of the Downtown Sailing Center.
So grab a friend and meet us at Happy Hour! Please register if you are planning on attending, so the bar can be prepared for the crowd! Feisty Goat Pub is located at 1400 Key Highway, across the street from the DSC. |

Postponement of US SAILING Safe Powerboating Course
The weekend course scheduled to commence Saturday, May 19th has been moved to June 2nd and June 3rd. Click here to register for June 2nd and June 3rd Powerboating Class.
In addition, due to demand, two more US Sailing Safe Powerboating classes have been added to the DSC calendar. This 16-hour hands-on, on-the-water course is for anyone who wants to learn how to safely operate a small motorboat and improve their boat handling skills on actual boats.
Sign up now, spaces are limited and classes fill quickly.
