Message from Kathleen Lester
President, DSC Board of Directors
Dear DSC Community,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kristen Berry for his continued service to the Downtown Sailing Center. He has served as Interim Executive Director for the past 2 ½ months, even though his new position has begun in full. We appreciate all that he has done for the DSC and we wish him well on his new journey.
As we still have not secured an Executive Director (not for much hard work on the part of the Search Committee, we just have not found the right person), I will serve in the capacity of Interim Executive Director, taking on the roles and responsibilities that Kristen had been assigned in this position. I will work closely with the staff, attend to all organizational matters that we must handle as a non-profit, maintain our relationship with the BMI and coordinate fundraising with the Board of Directors. As per our prior delegation of responsibilities when Kristen transitioned to Interim Executive Director, the following still apply:
- Membership issues should be coordinated through Josh Ewen and the Membership Council;
- Fleet or Facilities issues should be coordinated through the Fleet & Facilities Committee, Trevor Smith;
- All volunteer issues should be coordinated through Siiri Fowler and the Volunteerism Council; and
- All program related issues should be coordinated through the Program and Education Committee, either Lynn Handy or Bryan Richardson.
Thank you to everyone who has pitched in and helped out during our transition, wecould not have made it through without your hard work and dedication. We look forward to a great 2012 sailing season.
Kathleen Lester
DSC Board President

Open House at DSC
Event Postponed to Sunday, May 20, 2012 ~ 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Date & Time Change for Open House: Due to an event taking place in the Key Highway/DSC area impacting parking and logistical issues, we have decided to postpone our Open House from Saturday, May 12th to Sunday, May 20th. An email message to registered guests has been issued from the DSC office. If you aware of friends, colleagues, or family members that were planning on attending the Open House without registration, please share our newsletter to alert them to the change in plans. Click here to visit the registration page for the Open House. (Note: If previously registered for the postponed event, please re-register for the revised date as personal information cannot be transferred.)
Open House Needs Volunteers (9:30 AM to 1:30 PM):
The DSC first Open House of the 2012 season is next Sunday, May 20th. We are seeking crucial volunteers. We need at least 6 skippers and 6 "land and dock support" volunteers. If you are interested in helping out and choose volunteer as the registration type. If you are already registered, please plan to arrive by 9:30 AM to rig and prepare for the arrival of new sailors. We appreciate your interest in assisting with promoting the DSC and value your time that you share with us. |

Historic Federal Hill Jazz & Blues Festival & Sail-a-bration ~ Help Promote the Downtown Sailing Center!
The DSC is going LOCAL and we want YOU! We are looking for positive, energetic volunteers that want to spread the good word about the DSC at the Historic Federal Hill Jazz & Blues Festival on June 3rd from 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM. There are 70 venders and the DSC is going to be one of them. In order to get the booth, we need to provide a minimum of 5 volunteers for the 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM shift and 10 volunteers for the 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM shift.
Volunteers will be selling beer tickets, pouring beer, potentially helping with children's games, and having a whole lotta fun chatting about sailing. It will be a great day to come, hang out, and spread the good word about DSC to the local community. We need to give them a good sense by May 15th if we are able to participate, so sign up NOW!
Another GREAT opportunity to get out there! The DSC is part of the Sail-a-bration in the Inner Harbor from June 14-18. Check your schedules for the opportunity to register soon.
