Dear DSC Community,
As I sit here reflecting on the past two year I am filled with mixed emotions. There are so many accomplishments in the past two years that I am proud of and a few things I wish I could do over again. But overwhelmingly I feel good about having been a part of this organization. Thank you for allowing me to serve as the executive director.
The impact the DSC has on its members and our program participants is profound and the impact it has had on me has been life changing. I am thankful to everyone I have met here for making me a better person, both personally and professionally. I would like to extend a very special thanks to our board of directors for their guidance and support. I would like to thank Steve Smith and Kathleen Lester for being wonderful leaders and understanding bosses. Doug Silber has also been a major supporter and confidant, and without his support I would have struggled even more mightily. Jim Koehnlein has been a mentor and provided perspective that few other could. Thank you. I have been fortunate to have great staff support since I came here. Shannon Darlington was supporting from the get-go and continues to lend a hand when we need it. Thanks Shannon. Grady Byus, Sean Beale-Rosano, Stuart Proctor and Lynn Handy have worked tirelessly through some seemingly insurmountable challenges and have helped move the DSC in the right direction. Thanks for the long hours and boundless energy you have brought to the sailing center - you always inspired me to work harder. The sailing center does not rely on one person to exist. It never has. Rather it is the collective energy of YOU our supporters, members, and participants. The sailing center will go on without me, but it cannot go on without you.
As you know, we are faced with many challenges including maintaining and improving our fleet. The hard truth of the matter is that it takes money to operate the DSC and our fee-for-service programs such as membership and education do not generate the revenue to cover all of our costs.
Because of this fact, we must raise money from donations and our most reliable source of funding is from lovers of the sailing center, like you. While major gifts are great, every donation matters. Whether you can give $5, $50 or $500 you CAN make a major impact at the sailing center. In fact, if 100 people made a donation of at least $15 dollars today we would be well on our way to getting three more boats in service for this season. As a final request I hope you will consider taking me up on this challenge and make a small donation today. In fact, I just went online and donated $25 - just 99 more folks to go.
Thank you again for your dedication to the sailing center. I have enjoyed serving as your executive director and look forward to crossing tacks with you soon. Fair winds and following seas -
