Fleet and Facilities Update
As many of you know, a number of our boats have been taken offline for additional maintenance and repairs. We believe this has caused some misunderstandings about our fleet availability for 2012, and the safety of the vessels. The Fleet & Facilities Committee is working with the DSC professional staff to ensure that our fleet is properly maintained and safe for use for all of our programs.
We are happy to report that all Access dinghies will be in service, and we are developing a plan to have ten (10) J/22-Sonars ready by April 1, 2012 to kick off our season. We expect to have an additional three (3) to five (5) boats come online in the following weeks, as resources permit. The primary reason for this delay is because of deferred maintenance that is now being addressed, but takes longer and consumes more resources than our typical annual maintenance.
Our operating budget will not cover the cost of addressing all of our deferred maintenance, and we need your assistance. The Fleet & Facilities Committee is asking for your financial support to help cover the costs of this maintenance. Once our plan is completed, we will be posting a to-do list of the specific repairs needed for each boat, including the estimated cost for materials and volunteer man-hours hours to complete each repair. Please consider sponsoring one of the repairs by sending a donation targeted to "fleet maintenance" to help us maximize the number of boats we put in the water this year for our programs. If you are not able to donate financially, stay tuned for volunteer opportunities as well. Our goal is to see all 15 J22's and Sonars out on the water throughout the season.
