Ya' Gotta Regatta Wrap Up

"The DSC had a very successful Ya' Gotta Regatta event last Saturday with over 40 participants out on the water and an overwhelming amount of volunteers. Saturday also was the formal ribbon cutting ceremony for our incredible new accessible docks. Thank you again to Doug Silber, his family, and the Department of Natural Resources for giving us a safe, accessible platform that is the best in the nation. This dock will truly allow the DSC to reach more accessible sailors than ever before.

Though there was very little wind the access dinghy racers were able to head out and successfully compete in two races! The winners of the first heat were Jeff Snyder and Jay Schlein. Jay has been a long time sailor who hasn't been on the water recently due to his mobility. He went out for the first time this summer and feel in love with racing again. The second heat winner was Michael Mill who found out about the DSC this summer through the Kennedy Krieger Institute. He is now hooked on racing and can't wait to get back out on the water..."

Membership Council Formed

The DSC's new Membership Council had its inaugural meeting Monday, September 12. The Membership Council was started to help the professional staff and Board understand the views of the DSC's members. We will also make recommendations for new programs and ways to improve current programs, based on feedback and input from the members. It's important that you let us know your ideas! In addition, we serve as a home-base for the Racing Council, Cruising Council, the Social Committee and the new Recreational Sailing Council.

The Membership Council consists of Josh Ewen (chair), Grady Byus (professional staff representative), Kathleen Lester (Board representative), Scott Kirwin (chair of Racing Council), Bob Baginski (chair of Cruising Council), Claire Corcoran (chair of Rec Sailing Council), Shannon Darlington, Randy Gray, Gary Page, Nick Thomas, Chris Tom and John Wrangle.

We'll be developing member surveys over the next few months, but in the meanwhile, please let us know your recommendations for making the DSC the best possible organization. Check out our membership council webpage, which will allow you to e-mail us directly, and you can also view meeting minutes to know what we are working on. Also feel free to say hi and chat with us on the docks.

Office Upgrades and Emergency Line Change

If you have called the office recently you may have noticed a big upgrade. We recently installed a new phone system which will allow you to directly reach individual staff members, leave voice mails in their mailbox, and even allows the staff to forward calls to their cell phone so we can stay in constant contact with you!

An important change to note is that there will no longer be a separate emergency/discrepancy line. To report a boat emergency or discrepancy you can now call the office and dial extension "5". As always, call the office at (410) 727-0722 if you have any questions.
