New Docklines and Assigned Slips
Thanks to a generous challenge grant from Doug Silber and the matching donations of more than a dozen members; we have recently replaced all the fenders and docklines on the daysailing fleet!
You will find that every boat has its own dockline permanently fastened to the dock. The lines are a continuous 40', tied with alpine butterfly loop knots and bowlines to be the right length for a bow, stern, and two spring lines. There are two loops in the line and all you have to do is loop them through the cleats on the boat and make sure they run through the bow chocks!
Check out the updated DSC blog for more details and photo descriptions of the new dockline set up!

Cruising Announcement
A watch change is coming to the Downtown Sailing Center's volunteer leadership and cruising program. After more than two years at the helm of the sailing center's cruising program, John King, is stepping down from his role as Cruising Chair.
John's leadership has put the cruising program on a good course to future success. John said, " It has been a great experience to work with the cruising volunteers and the DSC staff to grow the cruising program. I am particularly grateful to all of those skippers, boat managers and committee volunteers who have given their time over the past two years to expand and maintain our fleet, and to implement a cruising education effort, significantly expand cruising events, become a crucial part of the DSC Outreach effort, and coach/mentor and bring on board 12 new cruising skippers."
The Downtown Sailing Center would like to thank John for his hard work and dedication to the cruising program as well as the contribution he has made to the accessible sailing program and the ongoing improvement to our fleet and facility. We look forward to seeing John spending more time sailing and enjoying the sailing center he has helped build and improve.
Bob Baginski has been selected as the new cruising program chairperson. Bob's creative thinking, organizational skills and long engagement with the cruising program make him an ideal candidate to assume the role of cruising program chair.
The Downtown Sailing Center is proud to have Bob as part of the organization's volunteer leadership. John King said, "The cruising program is now in the hands of a very capable individual, and I wish Bob Baginski the best."

Call For Volunteers
It is time to prep the Access Dinghies for the Ya' Gotta Regatta! Our goal is to make all the necessary performance repairs and modifications, and to also clean and wax the boats for long term looks and protection. Join us Saturday September 17 starting at 10:00 A.M. We will rendezvous at the A Dock Gate. Please register online if you plan to attend. This will be an all-day work party, and we'll need as many hands as possible. The day will work in stages with different teams of volunteers working on different projects (which you can see as registration types). The tasks that need to be accomplished are the following: 1. Strip dinghies of all gear, including rub rails. 2. Modify rigging to eliminate outhaul issues. 3. Replace lines as needed per boat. 4. Clean and wax the topsides and hulls of every dinghy. 5. Install carpet on the railroad system. 6. Install dock rub rails on the "T-Head". 7. Organize and rinse equipment in dock boxes. 8. Cook up some burgers for the volunteers!
If you would like to volunteer, please register on the DSC calendar and select your volunteer type. If you have any further questions, please contact the Waterfront Manager Sean Beale-Rosano at Sean@downtownsailing.org or call him at 310 384-8802.
