Eye On Irene

Hurricane Irene is coming this way and with it there is a potential for damaging winds, extreme tides and heavy rain. While we hope that Irene has more bark than bite; we are preparing our fleet and facility for the worst.

Beginning tomorrow at 9:00 A.M. we will be pulling all J/22, Sonar and Impulse 21 rigs, removing any unsecured items from the dock, moving and securing boats and hauling out our safety boats.

From Friday at 4:00 P.M. to Monday 4:00 P.M. all programs scheduled during this time - including accessible sailing, member open sail, Friday fun race and adult education - are cancelled or postponed.

The Downtown Sailing Center will be closed with gates locked on Saturday and Sunday. We will post updates to the status of events and operations via this newsletter, the blog, Facebook and Twitter, all of which can be found on the left bar of the newsletter.

In preparation for Irene we will be preparing the boats and facility Friday. This includes removing all sails and canvas from the boats, securing the boats with docklines and fenders, securing facility items such as dock boxes and trash cans and moving some boats to more secure locations.

If you are able to support this effort please register here.  There are slots available from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. and any help is appreciated. Come for an hour or come for the day!
