Happy 4th of July!

The Downtown Sailing Center would like to wish you a Happy 4th of July!

As a reminder, July 4th is red flag day at the Baltimore Museum of Industry Campus as of 2:00 P.M. Thank you for your cooperation!

While Juniors camps will be running, the office will be closed all day and all boat usage is restricted after 2:00 P.M. on July 4th.

What Should You Be Doing This Friday?

The July First Friday Social Party will be July 8, 2011.  While this is in fact the SECOND Friday in July it will still be the most fun you can have on a Friday night.  Guaranteed.

Registration for the July 8 First Friday Social is open now. Remember that your registration helps us adequately plan for the number of attendees as well as gives everyone a chance to see who is coming to the social.

Of course if you are looking for something to do this Friday, join fellow DSC sailors for the weekly Friday Night Fun Race. Friday Fun Races are a cool opportunity for low key racing against your friends and a great excuse to hone your sailing skills.

You do not need to be racing crew or a racing skipper to participate, just show up on Fridays around 5:30 PM and go sailing!  The start is right off of the DSC docks and then sailors race out to a government buoy (agreed upon prior to the start by consensus and based on the conditions) near Fort McHenry and back to the docks.  First home wins!

We have made registration for Friday Night Fun racing available on the calendar!  Please note that this is an informal event, so it is suggested that crew contact a skipper to ensure there is space available onboard.

Sign Up Now For Session Three!

Session Three sailing lessons are filling up quick! Whether you want to take your first sailing lesson or get your US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification, we still have spots available so sign up now!

New Cruising Boat Managers

As everyone knows, our cruising fleet is a huge asset to the DSC. There is a very special group of people who dedicate enormous amounts of time to making sure the boats are well cared after. These people are our "Boat Managers".

A Boat Manager takes responsibility for an individual cruiser among our fleet and coordinates maintenance, check outs, volunteers, and sails on the boat.

We would like to welcome our two latest Boat Managers, Rena Kaz and Nick Thomas! Both Nick and Rena have been very active members of the DSC and have just stepped up to help ensure our cruising fleet is better than ever.

Thanks Nick and Rena!

Special Olympics and Accessible Sailing

Special Olympics kicked off with a bang last Thursday night and with the help of Steve Gross, Ed Duggan, Laura Townsend, Jason Toraldo, Nolan North, and Brian Kane! The participants went out with their sailing buddies and learned the basics of sailing on our Access Dinghies. Special Olympics will be sailing with us every Thursday night until the end of July so if you are interested in helping out, please register. We are specifically in need of two skippers, safety boat support and four sailing buddies. The event is now posted on our website so check it out!

Another accessible event is quickly approaching this Saturday and it is filling up fast. We have participants interested in cruisers, sonars and dinghies so hopefully our entire fleet will be in use again. This has been such an exciting year for our Saturday sails thanks to everyone enough for helping to build this program. If you haven't participated you should come down and experience the excitement.
