Happy New Year!

Did you know that The Downtown Sailing Center's new fiscal year began December 1, 2010? This year promises to be a great year for members of the DSC and you can help ensure this is our most successful year ever by renewing your membership, or giving one as a gift today.

Today we are announcing the 2011 Downtown Sailing Center Membership program and pricing. To kick off the 2011 season (and just in time for the holidays) we are announcing our first membership special of the 2011 season. Between now and December 31, 2010 you can renew your membership for the 2011 season at 2010 prices!

While our membership rates have gone up in 2011, we are excited to offer more membership benefits as well. This year members will have improved access to online resources, receive invitations to special events and all members will be eligible for deep discounts on Downtown Sailing Center education programs. Stay tuned for more announcements of membership benefits from the DSC and our partners!

New memberships and renewals can now be handled through our new online sign-up system. Visit our website to check it out and sign up TODAY!

This special pricing is only good until the end of the year, so don't delay.

Upgraded Downtown Sailing Center Website Released!

After nearly six months of development, we are proud to announce significant improvements of the Downtown Sailing Center website! This version includes a tremendous number of new features and new under-the-hood improvements for both users and the organization.

We revamped the user interface so that it is easy to become a member, register for classes and events and volunteer. Other key features include the addition of a blog for announcements, news, and guest commentary; member profiles and directory; a forum where members can post requests for crew or skippers and revamped file-handling capabilities among literally hundreds of other improvements.

The improved site is the collective work of more than a dozen core contributors, with super volunteer Erica Denner having acted as the lead. Thank you Erica for all that you've done to get us to this point!

It is important to note that this is the "alpha" version of the revision. We've resolved most errors reported so far, but there are outstanding known issues and most likely some problems that have not been reported as of yet.

It is expected that there will be weekly changes and improvements to the site. You can help us reach our goal of having a site that works well for all users and provides the highest value by testing the public sections of the site, joining and testing the member only sections of the site and providing feedback.

Special note for skipper level members:

We are working out the bugs for connecting to our boat reservation system. If you are interested in reserving a boat in the month of December, please call the office and we will describe the process for accessing the reservation system or manually enter your reservation.

A Very Blue Christmas - In a Good Way!

"In Baltimore's Lighted Boat Parade, Saturday, Dec. 4th, a culmination of the collaborative sailing/boating culture came full circle. Newbie member (since June 18, 2010), Kathleen Pryor responded to a boat owner's request to assist with sailing in the Lighted Boat Parade. She thus encouraged  a contingent of DSC members and sailing guests to brave the icy breezes and rolling waves, to create and install a Blue Moon themed holiday display on "Blue Moon" the private 33' Hunter, often seen at DSC docks this summer..."
