Ya'Gotta Come Watch the Race!
This Saturday, August 21, is the annual Ya'Gotta Regatta for our Access Open Sailing program for people with disabilities. This is the culmination of a summer-long free program. It's the final race, the awards ceremony and a celebration lunch. It's a big deal. So what do we need from you? Well we need you there to cheer of course! We're trying to gather a big crowd of people to cheer our sailors on. You can choose your favorite sailor from his or her bio and make a poster to cheer with for the race under the pavilion and then head to the dock to watch. The racing starts at 10 a.m. and the awards ceremony starts at 12 p.m. with lunch to follow. If you've never made it down for an Accessible Saturday, then you should come out, see what it's about, have some lunch and cheer our sailors and volunteers on! If you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer, send an e-mail to Allie or call the DSC office. |

Fridays Are For Fun...
Fun racing that is! Don't forget about our fun races every Friday at 5:30 p.m. If you are a skipper and want to learn about racing, take a keelboat out to participate in our relaxed race to Fort McHenry and back.
Not a skipper? No problem! Get checked out on the Access Dinghies August 29 and be able to take a dinghy out for some fun short-course racing.
Ever wondered what goes on in the race committee's minds? Learn for yourself by giving our race committee extroadinaire Tom Hicks a hand and get trained to run your own race committe one day. |

We Need a Grill!
Over the years the DSC has grilled countless burgers, hot dogs and other great meals during our social events. The hardest worker at each and every event -- the grill -- has sadly reached time for retirement. We need your help to reach our goal of $400 to get a new grill.
Your contribution will help us purchase a new grill and utensils that can handle the rigors of DSC use. Help keep the parties rocking and burgers cooking -- donate today!
The donor who contributes the most will have the new grill named after them. Don't you want to live on in grill infamy?
You do not need a PayPal account to make a donation. If you do not have an account, look for the "continue" button in the center of the screen under, "Why use PayPal?"

Thursday Night Racers Lend a Helping Hand!
The DSC Outreach Program would like to thank all of the Thursday night racers from last week for their help in getting the boats ready for the storm. There were several Access Dinghies that needed to be secured and a couple of boats that needed to be derigged. While waiting in the pavilion for the storm to pass, the racers jumped in without question and helped move the dinghies and secure their sails when the call for help went out. Thanks, racers, for all your help last week! |

See the DSC on TV!
Watch Fox45 news Friday morning to see DSC member Ed Duggan and Director of Youth and Outreach Allie Robinson on the morning news! At 6:10 a.m., 7:10 a.m., and 8:10 a.m. they will be talking about accessible sailing and the Ya'Gotta Regatta. If you would like to sail a dinghy in the background, call or email Allie for more information. Otherwise, be sure to tune in! |

Trivia!
The first person to answer the question correctly wins a DSC t-shirt. Email your answer HERE Riddle me this:
You are sitting in a boat floating in a swimming pool. At the bottom of your boat is a heavy rock. You pick up the rock and drop it into water and it immediately sinks to the bottom of the pool. What happens to the water level in the pool when you take the rock out of the boat and place it in the pool? The answer to last week's question is: The water space adjacent to a pier where a boat floats when "docked." Congrats to the winner, Charley Tucker! |

Downtown Sailing Center's Person of the Week is
Kathy Buckley.
If you've ever sailed a boat at the DSC, then you've sampled some of Kathy Buckley's work. Kathy heads the DSC canvas committee. She and her crew repair windows in sails, make sure all the sails have battens and fix tears. As if keeping all of the DSC's sails in good condition wasn't enough of a commitment, Kathy is a dedicated accessible sailing volunteer and former Accessible Volunteer of the Year. She single-handedly coordinates the cruisers for the DSC's free Saturday program for people with disabilities. She comes early to set up. She stays late to clean up.
Kathy Buckley. Sail seamstress. Accessible volunteer. Cruising crew. DSC Person of the Week. |
