Access Dinghy Orientation

Want to get checked out on one of the Access Dinghies? We are hosting an Acces Dinghy orientation next Wednesday the 28th where DSC members can get checked out to use the Access Dinghies. The dinghies provide a great opportunity for crew-level members to take a boat by themselves while having fun and working on sailing skills at the same time. Please call or e-mail Grady to sign up. Space is limited.
DSC Friend and Fundraising Gala Music Fest at Leadbetters Tavern in Fells Point

We all know it. The DSC rocks.

Prove it by inviting your music-loving friends to come out and learn about the DSC's educational and outreach programs while listening to some great live tunes this Thursday, July 22, at Leadbetters Tavern.

This event is designed to introduce new people to the DSC and its programs. All night long, the stage will be packed with some of Baltimore's best bands and musicians who have generously donated their time -- and their tips to the cause.

And remember; Leadbetters Tavern will be donating a portion of bar sales, so invite your friends and help us fill the tavern with new DSC fans. Bring your dancing shoes for a night to remember.

Outreach News

Last week the outreach program worked with the Kennedy Krieger Cerebral Palsy Camp. The camp was formed because researchers found that children with CP were more likely to choose sedentary leisure activities (like watching TV and playing video games) than active leisure activities (like sports). Sailing was one of several different sports camp coordinators wanted to have the campers try, and the DSC was a perfect match.

The first of two groups sailed last week and had a blast -- the second group comes in August. Remember, the more people that hear about what we do, the better we can serve the community. If you know of a group that might be interested in sailing or hearing about what we do, let us know -- or better yet, talk us up!

Finished With Your Foulies?

Have you recently upgraded your foul weather gear? Got a raincoat that doesn't fit? The summer staff would love to use them! The DSC collects used (but still usable!) rain gear for staff to use in case they need to work outside in the rain.

Recently we've been seeing a lot of rain and we could always use more rain gear! If you have some, drop it off at the DSC office and we'll give you a donation receipt for tax purposes. It's a win-win!

The Downtown Sailing Center's Person of the Week is Nick Thomas.

Nick Thomas likes the DSC because it provides him with a chance to learn more about sailing, help with boat maintanance, meet great people and volunteer.

Nick recently moved to Baltimore from Cleveland. He's also a Steelers fan (but we forgive him for that!)

Nick's willingness to volunteer his time, energy and knowledge is helping keep the DSC running and the Acess Dinghy fleet sailing.

Nick Thomas: Access Dinghy washer, Steelers fan and DSC Person of the Week.
