Greetings!
We are trying something a little different this month than our usual newsletter. When we found out about the World Book Night giveaway event on April 23rd, we really wanted to bring this opportunity to our community. As a small independent bookseller we are committed to offering the gift of reading to those who may not have the access to books that others have. This is a project in which everyone can participate as a giver. We hope you will join us as a part of World Book Night, on April 23rd, 2012. If you do not live within driving distance of Bayfield, please check your community for another independent bookseller and find out if they're participating. The deadline for signing up is imminent - February 1st - but let us explain what is entailed. World Book Night is a campaign to find light or non-readers in our community and hand them each a book. Person-to-person. The goal is to support and encourage reading for as many people as possible. It was started in the United Kingdom last year, and is coming to the United States on April 23rd, 2012 - Shakespeare's birthday, not coincidentally - as well! The World Book Night organization is printing hundreds of thousands of special free paperback editions of a variety of books, and they are looking for thousands of volunteers to go out on April 23rd and give books out across America. You pick the place: hospital or diner, school or... well, lots of possibilities. Be creative! Sign up by February 1st to be a book giver on World Book Night! Please go the website to read up on its mission, the books you can choose from to give away, and some rules and regulations. All you need to become a giver is a little time, a love of books, and the desire to give something to your community. We are happy to be the region's pick-up location for World Book Night. We will let you know when your books arrive, and you'll be able to pick them up right at Apostle Islands Booksellers. Think about where you'd like to give away the books before you go online to apply. And thank you! We love this idea and we are thrilled to be your community center for World Book Night support. www.worldbooknight.org Happy reading, All of us at Apostle Islands Booksellers |
