Hitesh Anklesaria considers himself handy, but he had never had the opportunity to drive four-inch nails or use an industrial strength power washer until he got involved with building a Habitat for Humanity home.
Anklesaria, a Verizon Business product manager, is just one of 80 Verizon and Cisco employees who donated their time and money to build a one-story, three-bedroom home in Bridgewater for Michelle Harris and her 8-year-old son Jonathan. Five years earlier, the mother and child had lived in a one-bedroom apartment. The holidays came early for a group of Newark students. Earlier this month, Verizon sponsored 24 students from the Robert Treat Academy in Newark as part of a New York Giants' children's football clinic. Giants' players Clint Sintin, Chase Blackmore, Charles Way and Victor Cruz worked with the students on running plays, tackling and passing drills. In addition, the students had the opportunity to have their photos taken with the players.

When it comes to heart attacks, every minute counts - literally. A heart attack occurs about every 20 seconds with a heart attack death about every minute.
Today, heart attack patients can receive life-saving treatments more quickly thanks to $100,000 in grants from the Verizon Foundation to the Foundation of UMDNJ for a program that enables heart attack patients to bypass the emergency room and go directly to the cardiac catheterization laboratory at UMDNJ-University Hospital.

Imagine it's Christmas, you're a child and there are no gifts. Then imagine that you and your mother are in a shelter as a result of domestic violence.
That's the reality for hundreds of New Jersey families this time of year. So, the collective effort of Verizon employees and customers collectively donating toys, books and/or money really does make a difference to a child during the holidays. Scores of Verizon locations throughout New Jersey had employees bringing in toys and books as part of Verizon's Holiday Giving campaign.
