Let's pause a moment to reflect on just how much technology impacted our lives these last 10 years.
Ten years. Has it really been that long since we worried about Y2K and whether our computers would function at the stroke of the New Year in 2000? The decade truly saw a transformation in the way technology easily integrated its way into our everyday lives.
While cell phones weren't a luxury, they certainly weren't omnipresent as we entered 2000.

Seasons ReadingsVerizon New Jersey President Dennis Bone joined Newark Mayor Cory Booker, U.S. Representative Donald Payne and other dignitaries last month to celebrate mentoring in Newark.

As part of the National Mentoring Month Campaign - and to plan for long-term sustainability of mentoring for Newark's youth - Newark Community Foundation, United Way of Essex and West Hudson and the City of Newark teamed to form the Newark Mentoring Coalition last year.

Seasons ReadingsFor the third consecutive year, Verizon Wireless collected more than one million no-longer-used wireless phones through its HopeLine phone recycling and reuse program, keeping them out of landfills and turning them into support for domestic violence survivors.

Throughout 2009, HopeLine collected nearly 1.1 million old cell phones using multiple venues such as Verizon Wireless communications stores; by mail using the online postage-paid label; and at phone drives nationwide held by law enforcement partners, entertainment venues and corporations.

Seasons Readings Teachers looking for creative and unique lesson plans for Black History Month, only had to use the click of a computer mouse for a wealth of resources.

Verizon Thinkfinity added a new feature highlighting free lesson plans, teacher resources and student activities to bring the inspiring stories of black leaders to life.
From the contributions of prominent leaders such as a W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington, to the advances brought about by black scientists, to the story of the Underground Railroad, Black History Month provided a tremendous opportunity for teachers to share these valuable lessons with their students.

 Seasons Readings
More than 23 schools and nonprofit organizations throughout New Jersey received free children's books through the Verizon Foundation's recent Season's Readings campaign.

Each year, Verizon employees at hundreds of company locations, including 23 in New Jersey, participate in the Season's Readings campaign by donating new or gently used children's books. Nearly 9,000 books were donated by Verizon employees in New Jersey during the holiday season.
