Interpersonal skills are invaluable at work. How your coworkers see you can have a big impact on your career long term, as well as on your day-to-day life.

Fortunately, there are several things you can do to strengthen your social skills and become a team player. These 10 actions will not only help you make better connections at work, they'll improve how others perceive you.

SOLID GROUND CAFE

Downtown patrons and visitors will have another option to whet their coffee appetite, any time of day. A former renovated bar, Solid Ground Café was introduced to downtown Red Deer in May 2012, nestled just below downtown's newest residency, the River Valley. Driven by a philanthropic mission, Solid Ground Café aims to "build community and provide a place of welcome", says manager, Colleen. The base of this initiative is rooted in Solid Ground Ministry, a derivative of Potter's Hands Ministry. This foundation provides a unique atmosphere to the café.

Colleen cites the hustle, bustle, and pulsating rhythm of downtown was key in deciding to locate in Red Deer's core.  "Our business is unique, funky, homey, and trendy."  With entrepreneurial motivation, Solid Ground Café's staff list is built on solid customer service and the desire to build community relationships.  Each staff member possesses a sense of commitment, self-sacrifice, service, and friendliness.  It is this dedicated, hard-working team that ensures the success of this café.  In addition to providing mouth-watering panini's, indulgent lattes, and decadent desserts, Friday nights will please the musical ears of visitors to the downtown.  A line-up of acoustic acts will showcase Red Deer's great local talent.  Solid Ground Café has much to offer and the coffee is always on (during business hours, of course).

 Gaetz Avenue Revitalization

48 Street to 51 Street
The final video inspections for phase one of the project start this Thursday, September 6, at 9:30 a.m. Crews
will be going from business to business between 48 to 51 Street for the final video inspection.
51 Street to 52 Street
Gaetz Avenue between 51 and 52 Street is open to traffic. The roadway will remain gravel until the paving is
done in September.
52 Street intersection and north
Work north of the 52 Street intersection continues this week on the gateway feature for Little Gaetz. Crews
continue to work on the foundation for the gateway feature this week.
The steel for the traffic signal is installed, and the signal should be fully operational by the end of September.
48 to 47 Street
Concrete work between 47 and 48 Street is substantially complete, and the street is open to pedestrian
traffic. The final paving for this block will be done at the same time as 46 to 47 Street.
Construction of the architectural street marker foundation is complete, and work on the street markers is
expected to start this week.
September 4, 2012
47 to 46 Street
Work continues, and the block is closed to traffic. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
Installation of catch basins, street light bases, electrical conduit, and the foundation for the architectural street
marker is complete.
The curbs and gutters on the west side of the street are poured, and crews expect to pour the concrete for
the sidewalks this week. It is estimated the concrete work for this block will take approximately four weeks to complete, weather
permitting.
Parking
We recommend that businesses direct customers to park on one of the nearby streets, in one of The City's
public parking lots located in the area, or in the parkade. For more information on parking downtown or
