Greeting cards requested for Annual Conference
Children's ministry directors, teachers, leaders asked to have children make greeting cards for Indiana Annual Conference Session
A request from Karen Powell, chair of 2012 Indiana Conference Session Implementation Team
After hearing that children across Indiana wrote notes of welcome to more than 2,500 visitors to the Super Bowl in Indianapolis this year, our Indiana Annual Conference Session Planning Team would like to copy that idea for this year's Annual Conference Session involving children across the state as well. This card project would be a way to involve our children in this important event in our conference and to help children learn more about this annual event. Conference planners think conference members would be really touched by receiving a card from our children.
Bishop Mike Coyner recently wrote in one of his epistles: "Our theme for the Annual Conference Session this June is 'Making Room' - and it will focus upon making room for God in our lives, making room for new people in the life of our churches, and making room for the next generation of leaders."
We ask if you, as leaders of our children, would help children in your church create cards to welcome the members of the Indiana Annual Conference attending and to thank them for serving their church. The cards need to reflect in their drawings and words a child's understanding of what it means to make room for God, for new people in their lives, new friends and new people at church.
The cards will be placed in the registration packets of those attending the conference session. Any extra cards will be distributed at worship events during the annual conference session.
To make the cards, please use these guidelines:
- Use a half sheets of 8.5" x 11" card stock paper.
- On the front, write: Welcome to Annual Conference 2012.
- On the inside, write: Thank you for serving plus any other messages you think would be appropriate.
- Draw illustrations of making room and other art work of choice anywhere on the card
- Sign with first name, name of church and name of city.
Please mail or deliver the cards by Tuesday, May 22 to:
Indiana Conference UMC
c/o Ruth Ellen Needler
301 Pennsylvania Parkway, Suite 300
Indianapolis, IN 46280
Thank you for your ministry with God's children and for helping to make the people who take the time to attend this Annual Conference feel extra special and loved by others in the church. If you have questions, contact [email protected].

OPERATION CLASSROOM NEWS
We had 20 people that signed in to help with packing on April 12th. Seven churches were represented, and three pastors gave their time to help with this mission.
There were 46 boxes packed with school supplies, text books, sewing material with patterns and other items. Also shipped were seven shovels, two picks, four rakes, one pitchfork, one garden hoe and five handsaws.
We want to thank the Cloverdale UMC for hosting our Spring Packing. The ladies served a wonderful lunch.
The next packing will be in the Fall at Breden UMC in Terre Haute. The date has not been set. Now is the time to look for good used tennis shoes, flip flops, any school related items such as manual typewriters. Bicycles are used by pastors and school teachers as transportation. Also needed are non-electric hand tools for carpentry or agriculture for the vocational students.
If any individual or church is interested in sponsoring a student, scholarships are $100 per student. You can contact me directly or go to www.operationclassroom for more details.
Again, thank you Cloverdale UMC and everyone who helped with this mission. See you in the Fall!
