Ever wonder how military bases and defense installations are planned and built? Join us on May 17 to hear from Dr. Dorothy Robyn, Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Installations and Environment. Dr. Robyn and a panel of experts will discuss how the Department of Defense uses comprehensive master planning and updated construction and operations standards to plan, build, and operate facilities that are more environmentally sensitive.  |

Beautifying America’s Front Yard
On May 31 the three winning teams from the National Mall Design Competition will present their dynamic concepts at the National Building Museum. The Trust for the National Mall, the competition sponsor, anticipates announcing the winning proposals for Constitution Gardens, the Washington Monument Grounds at Sylvan Theater, and Union Square on May 3. The event is co-sponsored by NCPC, the Trust, and the National Building Museum. |

Commission Comments on Hoover Building Security Plans
At its April 5 meeting NCPC provided favorable comments on concept designs to add perimeter security for the Herbert C. Hoover Building, with the majority of security features inside the building’s property line. The Hoover Building is home to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the White House Visitor Center, and the National Aquarium. |
