Federal Triangle Stormwater Drainage Study and Companion Report Released

Companion Report CoverFederal and District agencies joined together to develop the Federal Triangle Stormwater Drainage Study, which provides in-depth analysis of a flood that occurred in the city's monumental core during June 2006. The study examines causes and six system-wide alternatives to mitigate damage from future flood events. A preferred alternative was not identified, but data derived from the study is already being put to use by the participating agencies.

Both documents are now available online.

Architect Frank Gehry Updates Commission on Eisenhower Memorial

Eisenhower Memorial Design

At the October NCPC meeting, the design team working on the proposed Eisenhower Memorial updated the Commission on the latest concept. Architect Frank Gehry discussed design changes and the subject matter for the memorial's signature metal tapestries. Responding to past Commission comments, evolving proposals for the landscape design of the 4-acre site were also presented. The site is located just north of the Department of Education Headquarters building, between Fourth and Sixth Streets, SW.

New Format for Agency Actions and Recommendations

Photo of commission meetingIn response to the federal Plain Writing Initiative, NCPC will update the format of the agency's project recommendations and actions. The new formatting is designed to make these offical documents easier to read and understand by highlighting key information and better outlining the agency's review process.

Samples of the new format are available on our website for review and comment until November 7. After the feedback period, NCPC anticipates making any necessary revisions and plans to begin using the new format for the January 2012 review cycle.
