GSA Shops Retail

The General Services Administration revealed groundbreaking plans at the July Commission meeting to possibly add a retail element to its national headquarters located at 1800 F Street, NW. The building is long overdue for a major renovation and plans have been on the books since 2005. GSA is taking the re-design opportunity to explore the removal of perimeter security measures and the addition of ground floor retail to enliven the neighborhood while providing amenities for federal workers and visitors. NCPC's The Monumental Core Framework Plan and Activating Federal Places encourage adding ground floor retail and mixed-uses to federal facilities.
Agency Schedules Comprehensive Plan Update

An update of the Comprehensive Plan, NCPC's blueprint for long term planning is now underway along with the addition of an urban design element. The "Comp Plan" serves as the basis for every project reviewed by staff and the Commission. The adjustment of the plan reflects the evolving nature of the National Capital Region and the recently passed executive order mandating increased sustainability within the federal government. Transportation is the first component getting a makeover, public participation is encouraged.

Join the conversation on July 22 at noon as DCMud hosts a live chat with NCPC Senior Urban Planner David Zaidain to discuss details of the Comp Plan and details on how you can get involved in the update process.
