Health Care Spending Account Changes
Why you may not be able to use your HSA card to pay for non-prescription meds
2011 Healthcare "reform" rules limit how you can use your Health Saving Ac count ("HSA") to pay for over-the-counter medications. You can still use your HSA to pay for prescription medications.
One of California's largest health insurers, Anthem Blue Cross has provided information in the following link to outline how they interpret the new rules. Since each health insurer might interpret the rules differently, it is best that you check with your current plan for specific information.
