Under high horsepower applications, the stock H-D Mainshaft bearing race (part# 34091-85) can sometimes walk into the main drive gear causing a seal leak and possible damage to the main drive gear bearing. When this happens, it is also impossible to remove using the proper puller. Before resorting to a cutoff wheel or other destructive method of removal, do the following:

Remove the transmission sidecover, top cover, shift drum, and forks. Remove the 3/4-16 nylock mainshaft nut on trap door bearing. Using a brass punch or hammer, tap the mainshaft in about " so that there is a gap between main drive gear and race, then pull using the proper tool and method. It is often helpful to heat the race to aid in removal. Replacement with our High Torque Bearing Kit is highly recommended.
