I hope this finds each of you doing well today.  It's feeling like fall out there! 
 
This week's copy of the Volunteer Classifieds contains much of the same information from last week and as you can see, there are a variety of ways that you can help!
 
Interested in becoming a Disaster Services Volunteer?  If you've already started your training, please contact Bob Green, Disaster Services Coordinator at 838-7320 or bgreen@hrredcross.org for a listing of additional course offerings. 
 
Would you like to learn more about our organization's role in disaster relief?  Join us this Thursday evening at 6pm for a Fulfilling Our Mission course, where you'll learn how to translate your compassion into community action.
 
THANK YOU to our "Chesters"!  Chester made two appearances over the weekend at the Poquson Seafood Festival.  Your support is greatly appreciated! 
 
We will have Bingo this Saturday at Chestnut Bingo Hall.  Same time as always.  As always, participating youth must come by the Chapter before Friday to pick up a permission slip. Let me know soonest, if you can help!

Heroes Event - Volunteers Needed

Eight volunteers are needed to support the "Night of Destruction at Langley Speedway" Heroes event, scheduled for Saturday, October 24th from 11:30am-4:30pm.  The Red Cross will "sponsor" a Tug of War Race during a day-long series of races.  Volunteers will staff an American Red Cross booth/tent and seek/collect donations in canisters.  Please contact Jennifer Frank, Special Events Coordinator at 838-7320 or jfrank@hrredcross.org for more information and/or to sign up.

A volunteer is needed to staff an information booth at Harvest Land Ministries International, located at 1009 Quash Street, Hampton on Saturday , October 31st from 1-4pm.  Please call Kesha Person at 838-7320 or kperson@hrredcross.org for more information and/or to sign up.
Cookies for Troops
Sheila Keenan, our SAF Coordinator is working on a cookie project, for our troops.  You can help by baking cookies and dropping them by our Ft. Eustis or Chapter offices on November 2nd or 3rd before 4pm.  For more information, please contact Sheila at 878-3339.
VA Hospital Volunteers Wanted
Sheila Keenan will schedule a meeting on November 3rd or November 5th for volunteers interested in contributing time and service at the VA Hospital.  Interested individuals should contact Sheila for more information.  878-3339
 
Volunteers Needed for Fall Thank-a-Thon
It's time for our bi-annual Thank-a-thon!  Twice each year, Chapter volunteers and paid staff members write over 500 hand-written thank-you cards to our financial donors.  The event also provides staff and volunteers the opportunity to get to know each other better in a fun atmosphere.  Join us on November 5th from 6-8pm and/or November 6th from 11:30am-2pm.  For more information and/or to sign up, please contact Jennifer Frank, Special Events Coordinator at 838-7320 or jfrank@hrredcross.org.
