University Lingo 101
|
University life is filled with changes, including a whole new language! Each month, we introduce you to three new university terms to help you feel like a Professor of Academic Lingo.
Offer of Admission: Once you've applied and qualified for admission, the Manager of Admissions sends a letter offering you a seat in your program (yay!). You have to tell the University that accept/confirm that offer by sending back the special form that was included with the letter. It's important not to miss that step!
Class: A class is a class, of course! At university, however, you'll find a few different types. A lecture, for example, is a large class where a professor presents course material. A seminar is a smaller class based around discussion and criticism of academic works. You may also have a lab, where you might carry out experiments or do research in a laboratory.
Convocation: A fancy word for university graduation! If you're in Grade 12, you're focussed on your high school graduation right now, and in a few years you could be graduating from the U of R. You get to walk across the stage, shake hands with the President, and receive your university degree. |
Come and apply for admissions on-the-spot at our Open House this month. You could walk away as our newest University of Regina student! Take care and enjoy the great spring weather. We'll check in again next month.
