Greetings!

If you've been through this Saskatchewan winter, you've likely been wondering, like me, if it will end. Well, we've changed the photo from snowy trees to sun-shiny grass, so bring on the spring!

Speaking of change, I'm very excited that our future student website has undergone an amazing re-design! Why not check it out now? You should find navigation and getting information is considerably easier. Even this newsletter got a bit of a facelift (and it's not even two years old!)

In this issue of URConnection, find out about career success with a degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts, get the latest on our upcoming Open House

on May 13, and read our latest installment of University Lingo 101.

Realize. The world is our community.

Article1Snapshot of Fine Arts Grad Early Success.

Mandy Cmoc graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film & Video Production) from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 2009. Almost immediately after graduation, she landed a great job working with a major national television network.

What is your current position?
I work in the television industry network creating news commercials and doing promotion in television.

How did your degree help you get to where you are today?
My degree helped me achieve my current position. My minor in Arts Administration also helped, because I understand the business side of my industry. I highly recommend this as an option for Fine Arts students.

What are your plans for the future?
The sky is the limit. I am based out of Regina, but I work on a national scale. There are great possibilities all over this country. My work has been shown on Air Canada flights and showcased both nationally and internationally. I completed all the work for it in Saskatchewan, but it shows how truly endless the possibilities are.

Any advice for future students?
Make sure you get involved, see if you actually like the industry. Compete in festivals and competitions and get your work out there and recognized. It's the only way you will truly know if you love what you do.

Follow Mandy's lead and explore
the endless possibilities in Fine Arts.

University Lingo 101Article3
University life is filled with changes, including a whole new language! Each month, we introduce you to three new university terms to help you feel like a Professor of Academic Lingo.

Calendar: A university general calendar is more than a chart of dates! Your university calendar covers the rules and policies of the university and faculty, and the outline of your program. It's important to review the sections relevant to you! The U of R's calendar is at uregina.ca/gencal.

Career Centre: Many people go to university to help launch a great career. At the U of R, the Career Centre helps students connect with employers, explore their own skills, and develop a résumé and portfolio to "wow" employers. U of R grads get great jobs, and this is one reason why!

Work Experience: Work experience (cooperative education, internship, practicum) gives you a chance to work with an employer in the field you're studying. This may mean a school placement for our education students, or a marketing placement for a business student. Almost every program at the U of R has some opportunity for work experience, another reason our grads get great jobs! We are work experience champions.
Don't delay, the June 1st deadline is coming up fast for admission to most U of R programs. Our admissions site has all the information you'll need to apply.

Take care and enjoy the warming weather. We'll check in again next month.
