Sharing appreciation with Jason and Erin
Jason Davis has accepted the position of Marketing Director with the nationwide ministry Revive Our Hearts. In this role, Jason will have the opportunity to impact thousands of individuals and families across the nation. Jason has served here at National Heights as our Associate Pastor of Youth and Family Ministries since November, 2005 and we want to say "thank you" to him and Erin for their ministry here.
January 29 is the last day Jason and Erin and their boys Elisha and Noble will be at National Heights. They will be honored at an appreciation reception at 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall and everyone is encouraged to bring a greeting card for a card shower for them. We also are receiving a love offering for Jason and Erin. Please mark "Davis" on your envelope and turn in your offering no later than next Sunday morning, January 29, during morning worship. |

Personnel Committee
seeks your input
As the Personnel Committee continues their search for God's desire in filling our Preschool and Children's minister position and Youth Minister position, they are seeking input from the church. You can download a sample copy of the survey that will be handed out in Sunday School February 5, by clicking here. Do not fill out this copy - one will be provided for you in Sunday School. Take time to read through the questions and pray about the answers you will give when the survey is conducted Feb. 5. Instructions will be provided by committee members who will administer the survey in your class. If you are unable to be present Feb. 5, copies of the survey will be available in the church office.
Wednesday, February 15, the Personnel Committee will conduct a Town Hall meeting for all those interested in giving input to the search for these two important staff positions. Everyone is welcome, but the committee especially wants to hear from parents, workers, and students involved in our Youth Ministry and/or Preschool and Children's Ministry. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall and will take the place of our weekly Bible study. Thank you for your prayerful input in this important process. |

From the Pastor's Desk
February is a month for National Heights to listen to God's leadership as He guides us through some important days. Pray for our Personnel Committee as they seek the people that God has for our Preschool and Children's Minister and our Youth Minister. Pray for our Taiwan team as they make their final preparations to go on mission in Taipei. Pray for our church as we continue to seek God's leadership in the next steps for our ministry as we seek to reach our community with the gospel. I am glad to know NHBC is a praying church. Thank you for your participation in our Tuesday @ 2 prayer time, our Add-Subtract-Multiply discipleship teams, and our many prayer groups throughout the church. Your prayers are vital as we move forward in our service to the Lord. I can't wait to see what God is going to do through you.

Worship Ministry preparing
for Easter Celebrations
Second only to Christmas, the Easter season is one of my favorite times of the year. We get to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior and how we are united with Him in that resurrection. Wow! Every year, during the Easter season, as I meditate on the sufferings, death, and resurrection of Christ, God teaches me something new and continues to reveal His truths to me. So, I'm excited!
This year, we will have 3 very special services that involve our Easter celebrations. The first will be on Palm Sunday, when our choir will present the musical Eyes of Faith. On February 1st, during our normally scheduled choir practice, we will hand out and introduce the musical. If you want to be a part of the Easter Choir, you'll want to be there for that event. We'll have a few refreshments as our choir listens to the musical for the first time. The Easter Choir will practice at 7:15 every Wednesday evening through February and March.
The second celebration for our Easter season will be a dramatic presentation of "The Upper Room" with a time of partaking in The Lord's Supper on Wednesday, April 4, at 7:00. At the end of the evening, we'll also have a time of reflection at the crucifixion. If you want to have a part in the drama, there will be an informational meeting on Sunday, February 19, at 5:30 in the choir room so that we can begin preparing. Please note that we will need a number of men for this, and there are many non-speaking roles.
Then, our third celebration will be on Easter Sunday with a special service to celebrate our risen Savior.
Begin now to pray for those who will be involved, as we prepare for this time of reflection and celebration.

| Women on Mission study, pray & work
Tuesday Women on Mission meets regularly throughout the year on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. All women of the church are always invited to attend. Mission involvement is always the emphasis with a variety of projects, ministries and studies throughout the year. Join this active group as they continue to extend their knowledge.
Women on Mission will be meeting on Tuesday, February 14 at 9:30 with a coffee in the fellowship room of the church. Hostesses for the coffee are Mary Friend and Doris Whitcher. All women of the church are invited to attend. The business session begins at 10:00 under the direction of Judy Divine, president. The program of the morning will be a book review given by Sharan Chittenden, our church Administrative Secretary. She will share thoughts from the book, Clara and Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland which tells the story of the woman who designed the Tiffany lamp.
Women on Mission will gather on Tuesday, February 28 at 9:00 in the fellowship room of the church for a Work Day. They will be making regular size and baby or children's quilts for Grand Oak Mission, 2854 West Grand. Each year the group makes from 15 to 17 large quilts and about 40 children's quilts for the mission to use to help in their outreach to local clients. This work is under direction of Barbara Fisher and her committee. Salvation bracelets will also be made that morning to be later used by mission groups going to Mexico. Jean Conrad is in charge of this ministry. Each year 1500 to 2000 bracelets are assembled for this ministry.
No lunch is served on work days, but hostesses Mary Friend and Doris Whitcher will prepare and serve light refreshments at the 10:00 break. Come and join the group for work and fun. |

RACER DERBY
This year's Racer Derby will be held in the church gym on Saturday, March 3. Races will start at 6:00 p.m. Please note - Racer Check-in will be on Wednesday, February 29 at 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. During this check-in cars will be weighed and checked. All racers must check in their cars at this time.
Royal Ambassadors and Girls in Action are getting their cars ready and everyone in the church family is invited to participate with them. See Kelly Enloe or Matt Cobban for a car kit. They are available to the children at no cost. All boys and girls in 1st through 6th grade are welcome to attend RAs & GAs on Wednesday nights to design and build their race cars. The Outlaw Division is available for anyone 7th grade and up. Cost for an Outlaw car is $5 plus $1 per ounce over 5 ounces, up to a maximum of 10 ounces.
The Racer Derby is always connected to a mission project and the RAs and GAs have developed a new project for this year's derby. Canisters are currently placed at the church entrances to receive donations for an In/Out Drive for Infants. The kids are requesting gifts of baby food, baby cereal, diapers and baby wipes which will be given to the Grand Oak Mission Center ministry. The gift drive will continue until the Derby on March 3. Note the clever name the kids chose for the drive -- mindful of the fact that what goes "in" baby soon comes "out." They have both covered!

Moms group sponsors pre-race event
Start your racer derby engines by joining in the Mom2Mom
Chili Cook-off & Blue Ribbon Bake-off Saturday, March 3 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Room 521. We are looking for 15 delicious crock pots of chili and 15 delectable desserts. We would love to see many different kitchens represented in the contest. Chili entries can be of any variety: mild, medium or hot; veggie or meat-filled. Dessert entries can also be any variety: cookies, cakes or pies, etc.; sugar-free and gluten-free entries are welcome.
Here's how it works: first, samples of the chili will be provided. Then, guests select their favorite chili, "vote" with their $$, and then enjoy a bowlful with all the trimmings. From the dessert table, sample what you wish and then again vote for your favorite with $$. Mason jars will placed in front of all entries to make voting easy, as well as to watch and see if your entry might take home the prize! There will be plenty of time for racer derby participants to enjoy a meal and then head to the derby races. Donate what you wish. Proceeds will benefit the Mom2Mom ministry, Grand Oak Mission Center and moms in need. |

We hope these procedures will help us better know and ensure the safety of those God has placed in our charge. Training will be over changes in our check-in and check-out procedures and implementation of name tags.
Parents of infants and preschoolers are welcome to come to this meeting but please be aware no child care can be provided since all workers will need to attend this meeting.

Newsletter Deadline

The newsletter mailing schedule varies from month to month because of how Sundays fall, and keeping track of a varied deadline is very difficult for all of us. So we have a new plan this year and the deadline for every newsletter in 2012 will be the 20th day of the month preceding. To have an item included in the newsletter you may call the church office or send emails to schittenden@nationalheights.org. Of course you are always welcome to turn in items early if you wish. Thanks! |

Thank you for your faithfulness to pray for and support us. May God bless each of you and the ministries of NHBC.
In Christ, ~ Drew & Pam Crabtree
John 15:1-5
Pam and I and my sister Molly Faulkner wish to tell everyone at National Heights a heartfelt "Thanks!" for the prayers, kind word, cards, flowers, hugs, and all the great support from our brothers and sisters in Christ during the time of the hospitalization and death of our mother Vera Chandler. The outpouring of support from our family at National Heights was so helpful. The Holy Spirit has given us a great sense of peace as we know that Mom is now present with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Brother Vaughn, Joshua Roberts and Becky Woodall made Mom's funeral at our church a beautiful experience, and we thank them and all that were able to attend for their help in making the service special.
God bless you, ~ Robb Chandler
National Heights Baptist Church Family,
Thanks so much for the many ways in which you enriched our loved one's life. Mom so enjoyed her friendships within the church... Staff and membership as a whole were very helpful to us during her illness and passing. Thank you for the English ivy provided for the funeral. It is a living testament to your compassion. Our best to you as you continue to share the love of God, individually and as a church body.
~ Becky (Chandler) Aldridge, Mesa, Arizona
