Greetings!
HAPPY OCTOBER!
'Tis the season for treats and tricks and we have both for you at Page 2 BOOKS!
If you are in the mood for a little treat, dip your hand into the orange dish on our desk to find a sweet treat.
If your treat is more about reading a scarey story, either for yourself or to read aloud to the dear ones in your family, be sure to see our special display of books at the front of the store.
Oh, and did we say 'trick'? Well, of course! Dip your hand (one time per visit) into our basket each time you come into our store during the month of October to see what 'trick' we have in store for you.
Celebrate Hallowe'en with us! Bring the children in your life to our store during the week of Hallowe'en so they can choose a FREE book. See details below.

Gayle | The Rest of the Story...
When it was announced that J.K.Rowling's (Harry Potter fame) new and first adult novel "A Casual Vacancy" had been released, www.abebooks.com also listed 25 other books set in the English provincial countryside. Curious, I checked our stock against their list and found Jane Austin's "Emma" and George Eliiot's "Middlemarch". That was it!
Naturally, I had to look further. And we score much higher in both English mystery and romance authors.
If you want to read some classic English mystery authors, try Agatha Christie first, followed closely behind with P.D.James. Then there are the whimsical mysteries by M.C.Beaton starring Agatha Raisin.
English romance? The obvious place to start are the Regency romances filled with Dukes, Duchesses. Lords and Ladies. We have many to choose from. However, you might also enjoy romance set in the modern British world. For that you would want to reach for Helen Fielding, of "Bridget Jones" fame, Sophie Kinsella's "Shopaholic" series or some of the less known such as Kelly Harte's "Guilty Feet", Sue Margolis' "The Original Cyn" and Claire Naylor's "Dog Handling". We have these in stock but if we sell out, we can suggest others. Please ask us!
At the Northwest Bookfest in September, multi-award winner Elizabeth George was a featured author. She recently moved to Langley, WA from southern California so we can now claim her as one of our many famous local authors. If you haven't gotten involved in her Inspector Lynley series, it's time! The detective/crime series is set in England. Technically, she's not a 'British" author, but she is beloved on both sides of the 'pond'. Her website has some fascinating history on how she became increasingly enamored with Britain. we have most of this series in stock.
All this talk about England and London...guess you have figured out that October is my 'go to London' month. However, this trip I am also touring the west country--Cornwall: Daphne duMaurier, Lake District: Beatrix Potter, and Stratford on Avon: Shakespeare. Lucky me! The store will be open as usual, closing at 6p.m. on Wednesdays, while I am gone.
Keep reading! --Gayle |
