Gayle | The Rest of the Story...
Recently I had a discussion with one of our long-time and loyal customers about 'buying locally' and supporting independently owned businesses. Particularly bookstores.
I hesitate even commenting on this topic since those of you who read this newsletter are those very customers! However, I wanted to share with you my thoughts on 'what we get back' because you ARE so loyal.
The obvious payback is UNIQUENESS. Every independent bookstore is its own personality and that spells FUN and CHOICE! In our town, Page 2 BOOKS is your go-to recreational reading center. We focus on what new reads you may want to take to the beach or on your vacation and we strive to make it easy for you to find something fun and interesting to read. It's because of your loyalty we get to be us.
Another payback is EXPERTISE. Walk into our independent bookstore and ask us that stray question "I just read an author but I can't remember his/her name" and chances are we can help you recall the name and find the book! If you are looking for a new author, we can suggest authors you might like. When you are wondering where you left off in a series, we can print you a list. We make every effort to be a resource to you but it's because of your loyalty that we get the opportunity.
"Buy Locally" has become a favorite topic of the news media. They like to cite economic principles as the main reason for buying locally. I think that's important, and true, but let's not forget that we are more than an exchange of currency and product. What we all really receive from a local business/customer relationship over and over again is FRIENDSHIP. And that's worth noticing.
Thank you for your friendship, for sharing your lives with us and for your dedication to our well-being. We all win and we appreciate you! AND we appreciate your willingness to tell others about us, too!
Happy Reading, Gayle |
